LPS Half Marathon Spreads Running Enthusiasm at Run the City Medan

LPS Monas Half Marathon tested the exoticism of Medan City in the Run The City Medan event. Spread the enthusiasm for running in Medan.

Run the City Medan is part of the LPS Monas Half Marathon in Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday (5/5/2024).

MEDAN, KOMPAS — LPS Monas Half Marathon tested the exoticism of Medan City in the Run the City Medan event. The 5 kilometer running event spreads enthusiasm for running amidst the running ecosystem that continues to develop in the city of Medan. The enthusiasm of the runners felt very strong since preparing at the starting line in front of the North Sumatra Governor's Office, Sunday (5/5/2024).

The runners started to try out the running track after the start flag was raised by North Sumatra Regional Secretary Arief Sudarto Trinugroho at 06.30 WIB. He was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Deposit Insurance Agency Lana Soelistianingsih and Deputy Chief Editor of the Daily Kompas (Kompas.id) Adi Prinantyo.

"The running event Run the City Medan is eagerly awaited by runners from various communities in Medan City," said Runmdn Coordinator Syahriza.

Run the City is a pre-event towards the LPS Monas Half Marathon 2024 which will be held in Jakarta on June 30 2024. The highlight of the event will be attended by 5,000 runners from A number of regions in Indonesia were organized by the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) in collaboration with the daily Kompas (Kompas.id) and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.

The atmosphere of joy was strongly felt in the running event attended by 1,000 people. Some of them wore unique running costumes, ranging from kimonos, clothes made from cloth bags, to costumes resembling referee Shen Yinhao who was "hated" by netizens after leading the semi-final match of the U-23 Asia Cup between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.

Runners tested the exoticism of the track in the heart of the city starting from the North Sumatra Governor's Office, passing through LPS I Medan Office in Sinar Mas Land Plaza, then on to KH Zainul Arifin Street and S Parman Street. Runners enjoyed the morning atmosphere of the city at various icons, including the Great Mosque of North Sumatra, Little India area, Gunung Timur Temple, Tjong A Fie House, and the Kesawan Old City area.

Syahriza said that the people of Medan are always eagerly waiting for running events. Every time there is an activity, runners immediately rush to hunt for registration slots. The running ecosystem in Medan has developed rapidly in recent years. Almost all the fields and streets in the city center are filled with runners every morning and evening.

However, running events in Medan are still dominated by 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer races. "Medan runners actually long for a longer run, at least a half marathon (21.09 kilometers)," said Syahriza.

I think this could be a national runner breeding event too.

Paolina Lim (41) said that she has participated in almost all running events held in Medan. This time, she wore a kimono, a traditional Japanese clothing. "This running event is for fun. I bought this costume for Rp 2.5 million. I bought it directly by entrusting it to a friend who came from Japan," she said.

Lana stated that "Run the City" also serves as a means to socialize the newly opened Representative Office of LPS I Medan located in the Sinar Mas Land Plaza building. The five-kilometer running event will also be held as part of the socialization series for the opening of LPS II Surabaya and LPS III Makassar Representative Offices.

The runner and referee Shen Yinhao, who was "hated" by netizens, crossed the finish line after completing the Run the City Medan route which is part of the LPS Monas Half Marathon in Medan, North Sumatra on Sunday (5/5/2024).

"The presence of representative offices can make LPS more well-known to the public. Trust in national banking can also increase. LPS also educates the public that their savings are guaranteed," said Lana.

Lana mentioned that the LPS guarantees deposits up to Rp 2 billion per customer. In order for a guarantee of a deposit to be worth paying, there are three criteria that must be met, namely being recorded in the bank's books, not taking actions that harm the bank, and the interest rate received by the customer not exceeding the LPS guarantee interest rate, thus ensuring the stability of the financial system in the Sumatra region is well maintained.

Adi said that North Sumatra has produced several national long-distance runners. One of the accomplished national runners is Odekta Elvina Naibaho. She comes from a remote area in Siempat Nempu subdistrict, Dairi Regency. "I think this can also be a breeding ground for national runners," said Adi.
