JAKARTA, KOMPAS - President Joko Widodo has requested that matters regarding regional head elections should not all be directed to him. The Head of State conveyed this when asked about the news of his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, who is reported to be running in the Bekasi Municipal Election.

Regarding the news about Kaesang, who is the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), running in the mayoral election in Bekasi, President Jokowi asked for this to be directly asked to PSI. "Ask the party, ask PSI," said President Jokowi during a press conference in Pasar Baru, Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday (8/5/2024).

When asked for his response on whether he would provide support or not, President Jokowi reiterated that the nomination of Kaesang could be confirmed directly with PSI. "Ask PSI. It's a party matter," said Jokowi.

Regarding Central Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi, who according to plans will be put forward as a candidate for governor of Central Java, the President was reluctant to comment. "Those are personal wishes, please ask the party or the person concerned. A little bit regarding pilkada ask me, how," he added.

The President stated that he would not issue a presidential letter (surpres) regarding the progress of the regional elections. ”No,nothing. "Until now there is no such thing as accelerating or advancing regional elections," said President Jokowi.

According to the schedule, the simultaneous regional elections in 2024 are planned to be held on November 27, 2024. "Yes, there have been no requests regarding that," said President Jokowi.

Previously, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian reiterated that the schedule for the simultaneous regional elections in 2024 is likely to remain unchanged, which is still on November 27, 2024. However, Tito mentioned the idea of accelerating the elections with the reason that the inauguration of elected regional heads is not too far from the inauguration of the elected president and vice president on October 20, 2024, is still open.

"I emphasize that the regional elections date has not changed, which is on November 27th, 2024. However, there are some opinions regarding only one issue, namely the synchronization of the inauguration.
