Training Results at Spa-Francorchamps Not Yet Maximum

The WRT 31 team, which is strengthened by Sean Gelael, has not achieved maximum results in the training session at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, THURSDAY — The WRT 31 team underwent two practice sessions at the endurance auto racing event FIA WEC 2024, 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, Thursday (9/5/2024). The WRT Team fielded two cars in the 2024 FIA WEC LMGT3 class, namely WRT 31 and WRT 46. The WRT 31 Team was strengthened by racer Jagonya Ayam, Sean Gelael , and two colleagues, namely Augusto Farfus (Brazil) and Darren Leung (England).

The results of two practice sessions in Belgium, which is the home of the WRT team, have not been optimal. The WRT 31 team encountered several obstacles, including an issue with the steering wheel grip experienced by Leung.

In the first free practice session or Free Practice 1, Thursday, Farfus recorded a time of 2 minutes 22.275 seconds or ranked 8th. The WRT 31 team car received an additional 25 kilograms of weight due to balance of performance (BoP) regulations. Meanwhile in Free Practice 2, Sean Gelael recorded a time of 1 minute 23.100 seconds. These results brought the WRT 31 team to 17th position.

Team WRT 31 acknowledges that the BoP affects the balance of the BMW M4 GT3 car. Therefore, up to two free practice sessions are still needed for improvements to be made in order to perform better in the qualifying and race taking place on Saturday (11/5/2024).

From the results of the training session, we can read the data, which sectors we need to improve.

In addition to the WRT team, the Manthey PureRacing 92 team, who is leading the standings, also recorded suboptimal results. They only achieved 17th and 18th positions in the two free practice sessions on Thursday.

The issue of air pollution is not new. The community has long been threatened by air pollution, and there is no shortage of research evidence showing the dangers of its impacts. However, these have yet to lead to significant efforts in controlling air pollution. Consequently, residents are increasingly suffering in the midst of air pollution. TF Sport 82, driving a Corvette, was the fastest in the first free practice (FP1), while Akkodis ASP Team 78, driving a Lexus, was the fastest in the second free practice (FP2). Meanwhile, WRT 46, which was driven by former MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi, placed 5th and 3rd in both practice sessions.

Friday (10/5/2024) is the final training session and starting position is determined. Leung as a bronze racer must undergo a qualifying session. Previously, Leung achieved 14th position (P14) in the Qatar series and 4th position (P4) in the Imola series. Leung hopes to achieve better results at Spa-Francorchamps or at least the same as the results at Imola.

"From the results of our training session, we can already read the data and identify which sectors need improvement. One thing for sure, the team will work hard to achieve maximum results in the actual racing session," said Sean who is supported by Jagonya Ayam KFC.
