JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Ten days since the decision of the Constitutional Court which confirmed the victory of the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Monday (22/4/2024), a meeting PDI-Perjuangan General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputeri and General Chairperson of the Raya Indonesia Movement Party Prabowo have yet to materialize.

Puan Maharani, her daughter who is also the Chairwoman of the Central Executive Board of the PDI-P and Chairwoman of the House of Representatives, was assigned by Megawati to establish communication with Prabowo, but to this day has not made any statement regarding her mother's plan to meet with the election winner. Meanwhile, Puan brings the mandate of the General Chairperson of the PDI-P to prioritize the interests of the nation and state above all else in exploring the meeting between the two national figures.

It is hoped that Puan and Prabowo's previous meeting plans will determine the future meeting between Megawati and Prabowo. Looking at ideological or political aspects, so far these two figures have never had any problems. Likewise the two parties, PDI-P and the Gerindra Party. This means that the opportunity for Megawati and Prabowo to meet is widely believed to be wide open.

However, as of Thursday (2/5/2024) evening, PDI-P had not decided on the meeting between Megawati and Prabowo. Moreover, deciding whether to be outside or join the Prabowo-Gibran government. The party's position will be decided by PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri. Apart from that, the Gerindra Party also emphasized that it would invite all parties to join the government together.

The political stance of her party towards the Prabowo-Gibran government will be decided by Megawati. Before making such a decision, Megawati will listen to input from all parties, including her cadres, at the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of PDI-P, which will be held on May 24-26.

When contacted in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon, Secretary General of PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto stated that his party's political stance towards the Prabowo-Gibran administration will be decided by Megawati. Before making a decision, Megawati will listen to input from all parties, including party cadres, at the PDI-P National Working Meeting (Rakernas) which will be held on May 24-26.

"The issue of political attitude in the future, whether within or outside the government, is the domain of the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle who has received a mandate from the congress," said Hasto.

Hasto did not give a definitive answer when asked whether President Joko Widodo was a strong barrier preventing PDI-P from joining a coalition with Prabowo-Gibran. Instead, he explained the rule emphasizing Megawati's right to decide on the political stance of the party in the future.

"In Article 15 of the Party's Household Law, the Chairman has the prerogative to determine changes in the party's political stance in relation to the government when implementing his leadership," said Hasto.

Separately, Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo denied the notion that President Jokowi was a thick wall in the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati. Gerindra's General Secretary, Ahmad Muzani, confirmed that the communication between Gerindra and PDI-P is currently going well. In fact, he mentioned that there are plans for a meeting between Megawati and Prabowo.
