MATARAM, KOMPAS – Investors choosing to place their investments in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, will now find it easier to obtain licenses as licensing administration has been placed under the authority of the Mandalika SEZ administrator.
“The delegation of authority and licensing to the Special Economic Zone [SEZ] administrator has been done so that services will be faster and better integrated. We also want development acceleration in Mandalika,” said Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution, Saturday (11/12), when surveying the development of Kuta Beach tourism area in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
According to Edwin Darma Setiawan, director of the Indonesia Tourism Development, the management of Mandalika SEZ, the service center had opened in the SEZ area on Saturday.
NTB Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service agency head Lalu Gita Aryadi said that the SEZ administrator would be able to process one principle license and six business licenses from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), as well as handling 68 licenses from the NTB governor and 46 licenses from the Central Lombok regent.
Darmin was optimistic that the Mandalika SEZ could be quickly developed not just in terms of properties, such as hotels, but also in terms of other plans, like the construction of the Mandalika International Road Circuit. The circuit has been designed to be of the same quality as a Moto GP circuit.
Logistics center
The Riau Islands administration is encouraging Asam Island in Karimun regency to become a special economic zone. The island, which is close to the Indonesia-Singapore border, has been slated to become a logistics and processing industry center.
Riau Islands governor Nurdin Basirun said that a number of domestic and foreign investors had already invested in Asam Island. The island would be turned into, among other things, an oil storage location. “There are also investors for other businesses who will open there,” he said.
Its location to the side of the Malaka Strait made Asam Island an ideal place for a logistics center. The island’s industry would also be encouraged to focus on exports.
SEZ status could not yet be given to Asam Island as there were a number of administrative requirements that were yet to be met. However, Nurdin gave his assurances that these would not be an obstacle.
Karimun regent Aunur Rofiq said that Karimun’s spatial planning would soon be adjusted to meet Asam Island SEZ requirements. In the current spatial planning, Asam Island is slated for development as an industrial forest.
“The Karimun regency administration and regional legislative council [DPRD] have agreed to change the regional regulation on spatial planning to get the economy moving. We are targeting the regulation being completed by the first semester of 2017,” Aunur Rofiq said.
