Another pedophile case has been successfully uncovered by the police. The number of child predator groups has sparked deep concern.
As has been reported, the Facebook group, whose administrators were arrested by the police, was named Official Loli Candy\'s Group, and was set up to exchange pornographic photos and videos of children. Within only seven months, the pedophile network had attracted more than 7,000 members from various countries. Two of the four administrators were found to have sexually abused children aged 2-12 years, including the nephew of one administrator.
Sexual abuse includes violence against children. Throughout 2016, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) received 3,581 cases of public complaints related to violations of children\'s rights. Out of that number, cyber-based crimes against children reached 414 cases.
Cyber-based crimes have made children the victims of pedophiles, pornography, fraud and kidnapping. However, do not consider the figure a true reflection of the problem. We know that detected sexual harassment, especially against children, is still only the tip of the iceberg, because it is often undetected or considered a disgrace and not reported.
Children who are not fully developed in terms of their cognition, social relations, physiology and mentality are easy prey. The taboo about discussing sexuality openly weakens the position of the children. Actually all children are vulnerable to violence and sexual abuse.
These crimes can take place anytime, by anyone, and everywhere: at home, in the neighborhood, at school, even in religion-based institutions. Information technology advancement makes it easier for the predators to look for victims by accessing accounts which upload photos of children.
Pedophiles are very nasty because they target and damage the future of children. Therefore, we must declare war against pedophiles and punish them as severely as possible. We can emulate Britain, which makes laws to treat sexual criminals like terrorists. In this case, the state\'s commitment is really needed. The public can participate by reporting all the child porn sites, while the authorities punish users and their operators.
However, on the other hand, children need personal protection from sexual crimes because chronic pornographers are clever about stealing and manipulating the children. Among others by indentifying body parts which should not be touched by any adults other than their mothers. Meanwhile, parents, the community, and the government are obliged to create a safe environment for children, and at the same time be capable of detecting the signs as early as possible when children become victims.
