When this nation was established with Pancasila as the basis of the state, the idea did not fall from the sky. The idea that Pancasila is a "collective home" took much debate before a consensus was reached. There were many ups and downs in the struggle to give actual meaning to Pancasila. Pancasila is a boon because it can act as a "collective home" and accommodate the diversity of Indonesia.
Interpreting Easter for Christians in Indonesia means to reactualize Pancasila as the "collective home," which gives a sense of security and comfort. The basic direction of the Jakarta Archdiocese 2016-2020, a part of the universal Christian/Catholic fellowship, sets: upholding Pancasila for the sake of safety and integrity. The key of the formulation, to practice Pancasila: more equitable, more civilized. This results in unity with each other and the environment.
Developing Pancasila as a "collective home" is imperative, not only in times of disaster or calamity, but deeper in the life of the nation. Its shape, which makes this nation more secure for its people, not partially, but entirely, constitutes efforts to give it concrete meaning.
Since the very beginning, Pancasila has united us even in our diversity. And religion, any religion, gives us true meaning. Religion revives humanity. Happy Easter 2017.
