JAKARTA, KOMPAS – Realizing social justice for all of Jakarta’s resident is one of the priorities emphasized by Jakarta governor-elect Anies Rasyid Baswedan. Along with Sandiaga Salahudin Uno as the deputy governor-elect, Anies also vowed to run the new administration together with all of the people of Jakarta.
The result of the election campaign of the last eight months is seen by Anies-Sandi and the political parties supporting them as more than avictory, but also as an opportunity to change the fate of the people. “Everything will be accounted for in the world and in the hereafter. To fulfill all the promises and meet the expectations of the people of Jakarta,” Anies said in his speech entitled “Jakarta’s Message ofUnity toward One Jakarta” at the Bank Indonesia Museum on Friday night (5/5). Earlier in the afternoon, the Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) announced the pair as the newly elected Jakarta governor and deputy governor for the 2017-2022 period and they will be inaugurated on October 2017.
The speech was attended by the pair’s campaign team, supporters and a number of leaders of the supporting parties including the Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) president Sohibul Iman, National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Zulkifli Hasan and former Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie.
Sohibul, Zulkifli and Prabowo also gave political speeches.
In his speech accompanied by Sandiaga, Anies started by calling on the people of Jakarta to forget about the election struggle and explained the meaning of victory in the regional election. He then went on to talk about the issue of welfare.
He chose specific words to describe the city of Jakarta, saying that it was not only a collection of real estate, buildings, houses, rivers and roads but also a group of humans with souls. “Not just soulless objects,” Anies said.
One of the promises mentioned by Anies-Sandi in their campaign was ensuring that there will be no evictions. They called it city structuring that would give a priority to dialog.
Unity
In the middle part of his speech, Anies said that the governor and deputy governor must serve everyone. He stressed the need to help those that are weak and weakened, and empower those that are marginalized.
He repeated his commitment to bring social justice for those that have never felt it. “We will bring social justice for the people,” he said.
Referring to the fierce campaign period, Anies said, “The knot that has been untied, let’s tie it again. The energy that has been divided, lets unite it again.”
Beforehand, Sandiaga, Sohibul and Zulkifli said that it was time for Jakarta residents to embrace one another regardless of who they voted for. “There is no longer number three, no longer number two. Three plus two is five. This is Pancasila,” said Sandiaga.
Jakarta, according to Anies, will also be the symbol of the spirit of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Pancasila and unity. It is where justice will be upheld. “Developing unity without justice is a denial of the noble ideals of living as a nation,” he said.
In his speech, which was made after that of Anies’, Prabowosaid that it was time for Anies-Sandi to fulfill their promise and commitment, to dedicate themselves to the people of Jakarta and Indonesia. “They told me that they do not want to let Jakarta down,” he said in his text-less speech.
The commitment, Prabowo said, was expressed by Anies and Sandi separately when they came to meet him after the Jakarta election quick count result was announced. “I did not invite them. They came individually,” he said.
Quoting a military habit related to orders and instructions, Prabowo closed his speech with the words, “The will, order and hope of the people is clear. Your plan and promise is also clear. What is important is the implementation.”
The period before inauguration in October 2017 will be filled with visits to residents of 44 districts, 267 subdistricts. “They are waiting to be visited again,” Sandi said. Both of them are ready to fulfill their promises.
