JAKARTA, KOMPAS – The government is offering 13 transportation infrastructure projects worth nearly Rp 40 trillion (US$3 billion) at the 4th Asia-Europe Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Bali. The international event is aimed to improve connectivity between the two global regions.
The 4th Asia-Europe Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM TMM4) starts today and runs through Thursday (28/9/2017) in Nusa Dua, Bali. The meeting is attended by delegations of 39 countries, including 18 transportation ministers and two world organizations.
“The meeting, in fact, aims to improve connectivity. However, we will also use it to introduce Indonesia’s potential, especially in investment and tourism,” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi told a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (25/9).
Budi Karya said that the infrastructure projects to be offered at the meeting included seaport, airport and railway development projects. “Most of the projects are worth between Rp 1 trillion and Rp 2 trillion. However, one project is worth Rp 7.7 trillion, the New Makassar Port [project],” he said.
Other projects on offer include Terminal 1 and 2 of Kalibaru seaport in Tanjung Priok, the first phase of the Kijing Deep Seaport, the first phase of the Sorong-Sreget Seaport, the development of the Cikarang Bekasi sea channel, Tanjung Carat Deep Seaport, Kuala Namu Airport and Lombok International Airport. There are also three railway projects, namely the Makassar-Pare-Pare, Bandung LRT and Surabaya tram projects.
Bilateral Meetings
In order to offer these investment and development projects, Indonesia is scheduled for bilateral meetings with a number of countries. A meeting with the Japanese delegation will discuss progress on the MRT and LRT projects, Patimban Seaport and the Jakarta-Surabaya semi-fast train. With the Luxembourg delegation, Indonesia will sign an Air Service Management agreement. Meanwhile, a discussion on intelligent transport systems will be held with the Korean delegation. Indonesia will also talk about vocational issues and the Bitung-Davao roll on-roll off (ro-ro) ferry service with the Philippines.
Separately, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce deputy chair for transportation Carmelita Hartoto remarked that the event was a chance for business players to learn about opportunities and regulations in other countries.
“This can surely repair or improve what is being done in Indonesia. They can look at our potential and understand the opportunities here. We also hope that the delegations bring their respective business players, so that we can conduct ‘business matching’ with them,” said Carmelita, who also chairs the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA).
