The sole candidate for the next Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander, Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto undergoes a fit and proper test with the House of Representatives Commission I on Wednesday (6/12) at the Nusantara II building of the Senayan legislative complex, Jakarta. Hadi Tjahjanto was nominated by President Joko Widodo to succeed TNI Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, who will retire next year.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has proposed Indonesian Air Force\'s chief of staff Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto to replace Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo as commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The replacement of TNI commander Gen Gatot, who will enter his pension age in March 2018, is natural and in line with Law No. 34 of 2004 on the Indonesian National Soldiers. The transition of the command stick from Gatot to Hadi at the same time constitutes a regeneration in the TNI body. Gen. Gatot, a Military Academy graduate in 1982, is replaced by Marshall Hadi, a graduate of the Air Force Academy in 1986.
Marshall Hadi will become the 20th TNI (ABRI) commander and the second TNI commander from the element of TNI\'s Air Force. Previously, in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the position of TNI commander was held by Marshall Djoko Suyanto.
We are grateful that the House of Representatives (DPR) immediately process the fit and proper test on Marshall Hadi and House Commission I approved Hadi as TNI commander. President Jokowi\'s letter on the proposal to replace TNI commander was signed on Dec. 3, 2017 and was handed over by State Secretary Minister Pratikno to the House leadership on Dec. 4, and the fit and proper test was carried out by the House Commission I on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
In the House, Hadi was accompanied by Gatot, TNI\'s Navy chief of staff Adm. Ade Supandi, Navy Academy graduate in 1983, and TNI\'s Army chief of staff Gen. Mulyono, Military Academy graduate in 1983. The tradition of accompanying Hadi by three TNI seniors is of course a positive thing for the public perception to TNI. The step is expected to be able to respond to questions from the public about the transfer of 85 TNI high ranking officials by Gen. Gatot on Dec. 4, 2017, one day after President Jokowi signed the letter to the House leadership.
We hope the command transfer process from Gatot to Hadi, especially after getting approval from the House plenary session, can immediately be carried out to prevent any command "awkwardness". A similar intension was also disclosed by Gen. Gatot as was quoted by this daily, "As soon as the House decides and approves, don\'t be too long."
The public perception to TNI is in a good position. TNI becomes an institution which is trusted by the public when TNI really leaves the practical politics dynamic stage. It is the duty of Marshall Hadi to increasingly consolidate TNI\'s inter-forces, improve soldiers\' professionalism and soldiers\' welfare, and really carry out state politics, and continue the minimum basic strength building program.
Inter-force consolidation in TNI body is important to be carried out to enable TNI to help and safeguard conducive situation ahead of the implementation of political years in 2018 and 2019. To Gen. Gatot, thank you must be spoken.
