JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The National Police's special team continues to investigate the death of Brigadier J, or Nofryansah Yosua Hutabarat, at the official residence of the Profession and Security Division of the National Police head Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta. Until Friday (15/7/2022), Ferdy's official residence was still being visited by officers from the Indonesian Automatic Finger Print Identification System (Inafis).
Security around Ferdy's official residence has also been tightened. Previously guarded by security officers from the local complex, now the official residence is also guarded by three village supervisory non-commissioned officers (bhabinkamtibmas) from the Pancoran Police and several plain-clothed police officers. Guard also cover Ferdy's residence in the Pertambangan Complex, which is located about 500 meters from his official residence in Duren Tiga.
At a press conference with the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), deputy chief of the National Police Comr. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono said the special team formed by the National Police chief had taken a number of further steps. Including an investigation of the scene of the case, an examination by a forensic team, to the examination of witnesses by the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim). The examination included witnesses at the scene and a number of other witnesses. "Everything is done based on the existing facts," he said.
However, there are a number of irregularities that overshadow the case.
Nofryansah is thought to have died in a shooting incident with suspect Second Patrolman E at Ferdy's official residence on Friday (8/7). The National Police said the incident was triggered by Nofryansah harassing Ferdy's wife, Putri Ferdy Sambo. However, there are a number of irregularities that overshadow the case.
Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik said his party had also formed a team to investigate Nofryansah's death. The team formed by Komnas HAM works independently, separate from the special police team.
However, Taufan added, when Komnas HAM requires more in-depth forensic data, they would ask for the materials from the police team and vice versa. Since Komnas HAM also monitors and carries out investigations in various places, data held by Komnas HAM can also be shared with the police. "The results [of the investigation] will be given to the National Police Headquarters as a recommendation by Komnas HAM, and the Bareskrim will follow up," said Taufan.
Different houses
Based on Kompas' research, Ferdy has lived in his official residence in Duren Tiga with his family at least since he served as head of the West Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit in 2010. In addition to occupying the house, Ferdy also occupies two other houses in the nearby Pertambangan Complex.
Jata Pardede, a resident of the Pertambangan Complex who has lived there since 1968, confirmed that Ferdy was not new to the Duren Tiga and Pertambangan Complex. Just one year ago, Ferdy occupied a three-story house in the Pertambangan Complex, while his bodyguards occupied the one-story house across the road.
According to Jata, in the past year Ferdy has been staying more often in the Pertambangan Complex. Unlike his wife, Putri, who was more often at the official residence in Duren Tiga.
Previously, South Jakarta Metro Police Chief Comr. Budhi Herdi Susianto said the official house, the location for the shooting of Nofryansah, was a homestay for the Ferdy family. Their residence was located approximately 1 kilometer from the scene of the incident.
Meanwhile, Putri Ferdy Sambo through her attorney, Arman Hanis, came to the Press Council and said that the media coverage of Nofryansah's death had offended the family's privacy. However, Arman did not specify the news in question.
"In this case, as the victim's attorney, we hope for empathy from our media colleagues while we together wait for the results of the investigation by the team formed by the National Police Chief," he said. (NIA/EDN/NAD)
