Crashed Seven Cars at GT Halim, Truck Driver: I Bought All Those Cars

The truck driver who caused a series of accidents at GT Halim is ready to take responsibility by buying the car he hit.

A number of vehicles overturned in a series of accidents at the Halim Utama Toll Gate from Bekasi to Jakarta, Wednesday (27/3/3024).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The truck driver who caused series accidents at the Halim Utama Toll Gate on Wednesday (27/3/2024), M Isnem (18), stated that he was ready to take responsibility by buying all the cars and trucks that were hit. He also argued that the truck could not brake and hit the car on the toll road. The police are still investigating this case by examining MI further.

In a widely circulated video on social media, MI is seen still undergoing treatment in a hospital room. The statement about compensation was made when he was questioned by the police.

"I will take responsibility, I bought all the cars," said MI in the video.

The Head of the Road Patrol Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Traffic Directorate, Commissioner Hasby Ristama, confirmed on Thursday (28/3/2024) regarding the widely circulated statement made by MI. MI is currently being treated at UKI Hospital in Cawang.

When interrogated, MI admitted that he was initially tricked by someone who removed the truck's gas line. Once it was reattached, the gas could not function properly.

MI argued that, when approaching the toll gate, their truck could not be stopped and eventually collided with a car. They promised to take responsibility for the accident and buy all the cars and trucks that fell victim to the consecutive accidents.

At present, the police are investigating the case and looking into who the owner of the truck is. They are also investigating who authorized MI to drive the truck.

"He has not been named a suspect, he is still being detained for questioning," he said.

The police have checked MI's urine to find out whether she is under the influence of illegal drugs or not. The result shows that MI has not consumed any narcotics.

Previously, a chain accident occurred at the Halim Utama Toll Gate heading towards Jakarta on Wednesday (27/3/2024) around 08.00. The accident involved seven vehicles, namely a yellow truck BG 8420 VB, a Honda Brio car B 2780 TYB, an Xpander E car 1505 MR, a white Hyundai car B 1061 SPW, a box truck D 8633 YR, an Isuzu pickup Z 8445 AH, and a Toyota Yaris B 1103 KRT.

Hasby stated that the chronology of the accident began when the red truck with license plate number BG 8420 VB, driven by MI, carried an excessive load of sofas and collided with a Honda Brio with license plate number B 2780 TYB and a black Mitsubishi Xpander with license plate number E 1505 MR. This incident occurred around the Halim Utama Toll Gate area, which is 300 meters before the toll gate.

After investigation, it turned out that MI did not have a driving license (SIM).

One of the trucks involved in the accident was transported at the Halim Utama Toll Gate, Jakarta, Wednesday (27/3/2024).

Attempting to escape, the MI headed towards the toll gate at high speed. As a result, when it entered Guard 3, the truck collided with an Isuzu pickup truck with license plate Z 8445 AH, causing it to bounce from Guard 3 to Guard 5. The car then collided with a Yaris with license plate B 1103 KRT.

After hitting the Isuzu car, MI hit the white Hyundai car with plate number B 1061 SPW. Subsequently, it sequentially hit the white box car with plate number D 8633 YR and the yellow truck with plate number BG 8420 VB.

"After investigation, it turned out that MI did not have a driving license (SIM)," said Hasby.

Director of Traffic at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Latif Usman, added that the truck driven by MI had a Palembang license plate, from South Sumatra. The police are still investigating where the truck came from and its main destination.

Before the pile-up accident, MI crashed his truck into an Xpander car. The truck also chased the Xpander car at high speed before heading towards the Halim Utama Toll Gate. The preliminary suspicion is that MI went berserk when admonished by the Xpander car driver.

Senior General Manager of Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division, Widiyatmiko Nursejati, as quoted from Kompas.id yesterday, confirmed that there were no fatalities in the accident. However, four people were taken to the hospital due to injuries.

One out of four of them suffered from a brain hemorrhage. The other three victims have been allowed to go home and only require outpatient treatment as they only sustained minor injuries.
