Collaborating with Sojitz Corporation, MRT Phase 2A is targeted to operate in 2027

The CP 205 contract period ends at the end of 2029 with the operational target of MRT Jakarta phase 2A in 2027.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — PT MRT Jakarta officially signed a cooperation contract for the construction of MRT Jakarta phase 2A, especially contract package (CP) 205, with the Japanese company, Sojitz Corporation. This contract period lasts until the end of 2029 with the operational target of MRT Jakarta phase 2A on the HI-Monas Roundabout route in 2027.

The contract signing process was carried out by MRT Jakarta's Director of Construction, Weni Maulina, and Sojitz Corporation's Assistant General Manager for Airport & Transportation Infrastructure Department, Naoki Kazama. The process was also witnessed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, Japan's Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi, and President Director of MRT Jakarta, Tuhiyat, at the Bundaran HI MRT Station on Wednesday (17/4/2024).

MRT Jakarta Main Director Tuhiyat explained that the cooperation package signed was for the development of the railway system and track work on the construction of the MRT phase 2A CP 205 HI-Kota Roundabout. This 205 contract package includes substation system, power distribution system, overhead contact system. , signaling (signaling), telecommunications, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acauisition), rail (track), and platform screen doors (platform screen doors).

Meanwhile, the agreed contract package value is around 26 billion yen. However, this project previously faced obstacles in finding contractors for the project implementation.

"The process of this scope of work experienced failed tenders three times. Tuhiyat stated that the CP 205 contract period lasts for 75 months and ends at the end of 2029. The operational target for MRT Jakarta phase 2A, which covers the Bundaran HI-Monas route, is set for 2027. Meanwhile, for phase 2B covering Harmoni-Kota, the aim is to be able to operate by the end of 2029.

Tuhiyat continued, the signing of CP 205 is a follow-up to the three mandates given by the Jakarta Provincial Government to PT MRT Jakarta. The first is to build infrastructure, the second is to carry out operations and maintenance, and the third is to build business and transit areas in Jakarta.

On this occasion, Tuhiyat also conveyed the progress of Jakarta's MRT, specifically in phase 2A from Bundaran HI-Kota. On average, he continued, the progress of MRT phase 2A construction as of March 25, 2024, is 33.36 percent. The details are: Thamrin and Monas stations at 74 percent, Harmoni-Sawah Besar-Mangga Besar at 28 percent, and Glodok-Kota at 50 percent.

Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, is grateful for the continuation of the cooperation in building the Jakarta MRT between Indonesia and Japan. He assessed that the Japanese Government has played a significant role in the development of mass transportation infrastructure in Jakarta, especially the Jakarta MRT.

"The Jakarta MRT is a testament to the successful collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, which has become the mainstay of public transportation in DKI Jakarta," said Heru.

Heru also hopes that the cooperation with Sojitz Corporation can accelerate the development of Jakarta's MRT phase 2A, which connects Bundaran HI to Kota. This is also an effort to improve the mobility and quality of life of the community.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi believes that cooperation between Japan and Indonesia is very important for the development of the transportation sector in the homeland.

"We greatly appreciate what Japan has given to Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. We also see that what is being done at CP 205 will complement one process from the transportation role of Bundaran HI to Kota," said Budi.

Previously, Budi had asked for the participation of Japanese companies in one of the contract packages for the MRT phase 2A project, namely CP (Contract Package) 205. "At that time, I hoped for the support of the Japanese Government to encourage the participation of Japanese companies in participating in CP 205 tender. We are targeting the signing of the contract to be completed by December 2023," he said.

The work that is expected to be carried out in CP 205 includes the construction of signaling systems, telecommunications systems, operational systems, power, and track work. Because, according to Budi, the development of urban mass transportation in Jabodetabek is a necessity.

"By continuing the development of the MRT in various corridors, it is expected to further facilitate community mobility and reduce traffic congestion and air pollution," said Budi.

Meanwhile, transportation observer and Vice Chairman of the Strengthening and Development of Regional Transportation Community in Indonesia (MTI), Djoko Setijowarno, stated that MRT phase 2A must be completed immediately. This is so that the MRT from the west to the east can also be realized as soon as possible.

The work expected to be carried out in CP 205 includes the construction of signaling systems, telecommunication systems, operational systems, power, and track work.

Nevertheless, Djoko reminds us that public transportation is not only in Jakarta. Indonesia also needs public transportation outside Jakarta that must be spread out.

According to him, the presence of the MRT in Jakarta shows that Jakarta is now on par with other metropolitan cities in the world.
