The Prabowo-Gibran camp says the coalition map is more fluid after the Constitutional Court's decision

Communication between the Prabowo-Gibran camp and the political parties supporting the rival camp continues to be built, but the results are waiting for the Constitutional Court's decision.

The leader of the political parties that are part of the coalition supporting the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin government, namely Zulkifli Hasan (PAN), Muhaimin Iskandar (PKB), Prabowo Subianto (Gerindra), Airlangga Hartarto (Golkar), and Mardiono (PPP), held a conversation at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday night (2/5/2023).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka camp revealed that communication is continuing to be built with political parties supporting rival camps in the 2024 Presidential Election. However, the results of this communication still have to wait for the decision of the Constitutional Court or MK. What is certain is that the Prabowo-Gibran camp believes that the coalition map will be more fluid after MK's decision.

The Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, when met in Jakarta, Wednesday (17/4/2024), said that communication with political parties in the opposing camp has been ongoing to date. However, certainty about whether or not the party will join the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) still has to wait for the Constitutional Court's decision.

"Yes, I think that if the communications have been established and carried out frequently, we will see the results of those communications after the Constitutional Court's decision. Media friends will see for themselves the results of communications from the 02 side to other political party friends in the other candidate teams," said Dasco.

Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, delivered a press statement before entering the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of Gerindra Party in Jakarta, on Monday (23/10/2023).

Similarly, when asked about the signal of the Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP), one of the parties supporting Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, moving towards the Coalition Indonesia Maju (KIM), according to Dasco, the certainty will only be conveyed after the Constitutional Court's decision. "We'll see after the MK announcement, the media friends can see it for themselves. That's all," he said.

Regarding the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Dasco asserts that there is no dispute between the party and Gerindra, nor between the Chairwoman of PDI-P, Megawati Soekarnoputri, and Prabowo. However, once again, everyone must still wait for the Constitutional Court's decision.

"I think more intense communications will probably be increased after the Constitutional Court's decision," said Dasco.

Meanwhile, the General Chair of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirmed that informal discussions between political party figures were very likely to have taken place. This could actually be seen when the General Chair of the Nasdem Party, Surya Paloh, met with President Joko Widodo, February 18 2024 or four days after 2024 Election.

Informal communication has also been established with a number of PDI-P cadres. "However, I do not know what decision Madam Mega has made. But, I heard that individuals from PDI-P, maybe some, are also talking about the possibility (of joining KIM)," said Yusril.

Yusril is not questioning the efforts of the Prabowo-Gibran camp, which is currently actively building communication with opposing party factions. He also recounted that at one point, Prabowo asked for his opinion regarding the desire to embrace these opposing party factions. However, it was unclear which party was being targeted at that time.

"So, the possibility of parties outside the coalition being invited to join the Prabowo-Gibran coalition did indeed occur," said Yusril.

Presidential candidate number two, Prabowo Subianto, together with the leaders of the Indonesian Coalition of Progress, held a press conference following the decision of the General Election Commission regarding the national vote tally at his residence on Kertanegara Street, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (20/3/2024).

Although this has never been discussed within the coalition, Yusril is convinced that there has never been any resistance within KIM about the efforts to embrace opposing political parties. The coalition also realizes that this effort will result in a reduction in the allocation of ministerial seats that should have been obtained by long-standing supporter parties of Prabowo-Gibran.

"This is the consequence of our desire to maintain national unity. So, there is a possibility for us to reconcile. But, will they all (be invited to form a coalition) so that no one is left outside the cabinet? I think there must still be (parties) outside the cabinet to balance this governance. So, it is not necessary to include them all," said Yusril.

Invite to join

Previously, the Acting Chairman of PPP Mardiono admitted to an invitation from Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto and National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan to join the Prabowo-Gibran coalition. The invitation was informally conveyed by Airlangga and Zulkifli on separate occasions.

However, Mardiono is reluctant to reveal when the meeting took place. What is certain is that the meeting between him and Airlangga, specifically, did not only happen during the halalbihalal event at Golkar DPP Office on Monday (15/4/2024) night.

"In casual conversation during a discussion, yes, of course it is present. For example, the discussion between Golkar and PPP, looking at a long journey in this country. We embrace to strengthen the goal of quickly achieving the welfare of the people," he said.

Mardiono also did not deny that he would immediately establish communication with Prabowo after the MK decided on the dispute over the results of the 2024 presidential election.

The Secretary General of the PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto, stated that the tradition of silaturahmi (social connection) is something good for the nation. However, currently, the dispute over the results of the 2024 Presidential Election is still being processed in the Constitutional Court (MK). In addition, they also filed a lawsuit through the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

Therefore, the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati will be conducted after the stages of the process in the Constitutional Court and the lawsuit in the Administrative Court have finished. Hasto emphasized that the PDI-P questions the election for the sake of the people's sovereignty. This has become the most important priority at the moment.
