JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting land acquisition for normalization Ciliwung River 7 kilometers long by 2024. The DKI Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council suggests paying compensation simultaneously so that residents are free from brokers.

The Acting Governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, delivered the target for the normalization of the Ciliwung River during the Plenary Session of the Accountability Report of the Governor of Jakarta Fiscal Year 2023 on Thursday (18/4/2024).

Normalization along 7 kilometers and restoration are included in the water resource management program. Other programs include increasing water storage capacity with a volume of 269,355 cubic meters, handling abrasion with a target of 63.99% of the coasts in Kepulauan Seribu free from abrasion, and handling flooding with a target of 87.12% receding in less than 2 hours.

Heru stated that a 7 km normalization will take place in East Jakarta and South Jakarta. One of them is in Rawajati Village. "The administrative process will be completed as soon as possible. Once completed, payment can be made directly. The payment is now made through the National Land Agency after it is declared valid," said Heru.

Flood

The 17 km stretch of the Ciliwung River which has not yet been normalized is vulnerable to flooding after heavy rain hit Jakarta and its surroundings. This Thursday morning, 13 RTs in East Jakarta were flooded from the overflow of the Ciliwung River as high as 40-90 cm.

The affected areas include 4 residential areas in Bidara Cina Subdistrict with a height of up to 40 cm; 3 residential areas in Kampung Melayu Subdistrict flooded with a height of up to 80 cm; 5 residential areas in Cawang Subdistrict with a height of up to 50 cm; and 1 residential area in Cililitan Subdistrict with a height of 90 cm.
