DKPP Follows Up on Alleged Immoral Acts of KPU Chairman, Hasyim Still Silent

DKPP has begun following up on reports of alleged immoral acts by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asya'ri. However, Hasyim remained silent.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Honorary Council of Election Organizers has begun following up on public reports regarding alleged immoral acts committed by the Chairman of the General Election Commission Hasyim Asy'ari against one of the members of the Overseas Election Committee or PPLN. Before entering the trial stage, the report will be verified, both administratively and materially. Even if reports of similar cases have occurred before, information from all parties will be considered in future decision making.

Member of the Honorary Council for Election Organizers (DKPP), I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi, said that his party had followed up on reports from the public regarding alleged immoral acts committed by the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari against a PPLN member. This is carried out in accordance with the procedural procedures regulated in DKPP Regulation Number 3 of 2017 concerning Guidelines for the Code of Ethics for Election Organizers and its amendments.

"At the moment, the report is still undergoing handling and verification," said Raka Sandi when reached in Jakarta on Friday (April 19, 2024).

The administrative verification, on the other hand, is the first step that must be taken after the report is received. Afterwards, the process continues to the material verification stage. In both stages, the reporter has seven days to fix the report if necessary.

Qualified administrative and material complaints will be referred to the court section for scheduling. Unlike other types of complaints, a hearing on allegations of indecency violations will be held in closed session.

Not the first time this has happened

Raka Sandi does not deny that reports against Hasyim Asy'ari for alleged sexual misconduct are not the first to occur. However, he does not want to answer whether the previous case will be part of the considerations of the DKPP in deciding the current case being handled. The entire trial process will be conducted in accordance with the provisions and consider all aspects.

All complaints, responses from the accused, witness testimony, expert testimony, and relevant parties, as well as facts presented in the trial, will be considered by the panel.

"All grounds for complaints, responses from the accused parties, witness statements, expert opinions and related parties, as well as facts presented in the court session, will be taken into consideration by the panel," said Raka Sandi.

Previously, Hasyim was also reported for the same ethical case by Hasnaeni, known as the "golden woman," at the end of 2022. The Chairman of the Republican One Party reported Hasyim for alleged sexual misconduct against her. In response to the report, the Commission for Ethics Enforcement (DKPP) issued a final strong warning sanction to Hasyim in April 2023.

A year after the ethical ruling against him, Hasyim has been reported again for alleged sexual misconduct towards a member of PPLN. Representatives from the Legal Aid and Consultation Institution of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH FH UI) reported the allegations on Thursday (17/4). Hasyim was accused of repeatedly committing sexual misconduct.

Hashim is still silent

The attorney for the victim from LKBH FH UI, Aristo Pangaribuan, stated that Hasyim was involved in a relationship with unequal power dynamics with a member of PPLN. Since their first meeting in August 2023, Hasyim is suspected of attempting to approach, seduce, and commit indecent acts towards the PPLN member. Hasyim is said to have made promises and manipulated information to seduce the PPLN member for his own personal gain.

Maria Dianita Prosperiani, the legal representative of LKBH FHUI, added that Hasyim had abused his position and authority for personal gain. However, she did not want to describe Hasyim's actions as sexual harassment.
