Understanding the “Compass” Transformation

One of the students opened the digital daily Kompas by visiting the Kompas.id page via his cell phone during a digital literacy seminar at the Diponegoro University Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Building Auditorium, Semarang City, Central Java, Wednesday (24/5/2023).

The development of digital information technology is an inevitable phenomenon. This is a serious challenge for Kompas, which must be able to adapt and innovate. Kompas must adapt (transform) to the needs and preferences of readers in the digital era.

One of the impacts felt directly by readers was the announcement that in North Sumatra, starting May 1 2024, the Kompas newspaper would arrive later in the day (Kompas, 15-17/4/ 2024).

This implies thatKompas no longer does remote printing as it has done so that the newspaper can arrive at home before 06.30 every day.

In fact, the change towards digital newspapers is not a sudden thing. Because, in recent years, digital Kompas has appeared. Readers have two choices, print or digital, each with advantages and disadvantages.

As a person, I have special memories after knowing and reading printed Kompas for almost four decades.

Why did it feel hard to leave Kompas in print? For some readers, there is a special sensation when they hear the sound of paper when turning the page and when they smell the smell of new paper. However, on the other hand, readinge-paper is more practical, easier, cheaper, and clearly gets news faster than printed Kompas.

However, there is something that cannot be replaced by Kompas e-paper, namely the TTS rubric. TTS fans certainly have difficulty filling in and sending answers. Hopefully the editor has a solution for fans of the Sunday edition of TTS.
