Seven Fire Victims in Mampang Prapatan Identified

The seven victims who died suffered serious burns reaching 90 percent.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Seven victims died who were trapped in a fire at the Brothers Frame & Gallery, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, has been identified.

Head of the Kramatjati National Police Hospital, Brigadier General (Pol) Hariyanto, said that from the results of the ante mortem, primary dental, secondary property (items attached to the victim's body) and medical examinations, all the victims had been identified.

"All have been identified. "All of them consist of four families," said Hariyanto, Friday (19/4/2024) evening.

The atmosphere at the Polri Kramatjati Hospital's funeral home at 10:00 PM on Friday (April 19, 2024) began to be filled with the families of the victims of the fire at the Saudara Frame & Gallery Pigura Store in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta.

After being identified, Heriyanto completely left it up to the victim's family whether to immediately collect the body or stay overnight in the hospital.

At the Forensic Medicine Installation and Mortuary Transit Room Building, four hearses lowered four coffins that would carry Thang Tajima (75), Heni (39), Austin (8), and Riichi (2). Their families were already waiting, but none of them were willing to share their story.

"Sorry, we are still grieving," said one family member.

From the results of ante mortem, primary dental, secondary property (items attached to the victim's body) and medical examinations, all victims have been identified.

As of 22.00 WIB, it was not yet certain when the bodies of fire victims would be brought home by their families.

At least four hearses arrived carrying coffins at the Forensic Medicine Installation of the Polri Hospital in Kramatjati on Friday night (19/4/2024).

As previously reported, South Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Ade Rahmat Idnal detailed that there were five injured victims from the frame shop fire in Mampang Prapatan. The injured victims were Ohim (35), Suwandi (40), M Zaenal Arifin (26), Surono (44), and Yohanes (24).

"There are seven fatalities and five injured victims who are still being treated," said Rahmat.

From witness statements, the fire occurred around 7.30 PM. One witness, who was an employee at the store, was working on the ground floor at the time. Another worker, named Suwandi, sprayed gasoline on the wooden ring near the compressor.

The spraying was aimed at driving away or eradicating termites. At the same time, an employee was repairing a compressor. Suddenly, there was a spark that flew and grew larger.

"According to witness statements, the fire is suspected to have been caused by gasoline vapor spilled by the victim Suwandi and sparks from the cutting machine used by the victim Ohim," said Rahmat.

The testimony of the witnesses, according to Rahmat, will still be explored. The forensic team of the National Police Headquarters is also still investigating the cause of the fire that claimed seven lives.
