Two mass organizations clash in Bandung, one person becomes a suspect

Police have named one suspect in the clash between two mass organizations in Bandung City.

Bandung Metropolitan Police Chief, Commissioner Budi Sartono, revealed the results of the investigation into the case of clashes between two social organizations at the Bandung Metropolitan Police Headquarters in West Java on Saturday (20/4/2024). One casualty was reported in the clash that took place on Dayang Sumbi Street, Bandung, on Thursday (18/4/2024).

BANDUNG, KOMPAS - The police have named T as a suspect in the case of clashes between members of two community organizations in Bandung, West Java, which resulted in the death of one person. The incident was triggered by a dispute in a parking lot near the location of the incident.

Previously, clashes occurred on Jalan Dayang Sumbi, Bandung City, Thursday (18/4/2024). Those involved came from Sundawani and Manggala mass organizations.

On Saturday (20/4/2024), T was presented by the police to journalists in the Bandung Police Headquarters hall. He is said to have participated in torturing dead victim named Yadi Gundil using a screwdriver.

The funeral of a citizen named Yadi Gundil in the city of Bandung, West Java, took place on Friday (19/4/2024). Yadi died as a result of the clash between two community organizations on Jalan Dayang Sumbi, in the Dago area of ​​Bandung, on Thursday (18/4/2024).

Head of Bandung Police Senior Commissioner Budi Sartono said, T was not alone in attacking the victim. They are still pursuing other perpetrators.

Budi stated that the trigger for the clash was allegedly a misunderstanding between a motorcyclist and a parking attendant on Thursday at 4:00 PM. The motorcyclist and parking attendant were members of conflicting organizations.

Not accepting the parking attendant's attitude, the driver brought his friends to that location. The parking attendant was also defended by his friends.

The location of the clash between the Manggala and Sundawani organizations in Dayang Sumbi, Dago area, Bandung City, Thursday (18/4/2024). It is alleged that the trigger for the clash was a misunderstanding between members of the two organizations.

The clash between the two parties was unavoidable around 6.00 PM. Besides Yadi who died, two other people were seriously injured. "T is charged under Article 170 and 351 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of 12 years imprisonment," he said.

Criminologist and social observer from Padjadjaran University, Yesmil Anwar, believes that the fight that resulted in the death of a resident should not be displayed by mass organizations. He suspects that the internal education of the involved organization is not yet optimal, causing its members to easily ignite fights.

Yesmil refers to Law Number 17 of 2013 concerning Social Organizations. "Social organizations should have mechanisms for handling legal issues or ethical violations involving their members," said Yesmil.
