Anies Baswedan opens up the opportunity to meet Prabowo Subianto

Anies Baswedan stated that he was ready to meet with elected presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto to exchange ideas.

Presidential and vice-presidential candidate Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Justice and Prosperity Party (PKS) at the PKS National Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/4/2024).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan admitted that he did not rule out the possibility of meeting with Prabowo Subianto, as the winning presidential candidate in the Presidential Election 2024. Anies stated that he was ready to exchange ideas with the president who won the election. This is also an affirmation of his commitment to maintaining the principle of peaceful transfer of power.

"After the reading of the Constitutional Court's verdict, we urge everyone to protect democracy and ensure a peaceful transition of power. Therefore, exchanging ideas and meeting should not be avoided, and when the time comes we will be ready to meet and exchange ideas," said Anies when asked about plans to meet with Prabowo after his visit to the leadership of the Prosperous Justice Party at the Party's headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2024).

In that event, PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu was present, accompanied by PKS Secretary General Habib Aboe Bakar Al-habsyi. Then, the Chairman of the National Awakening Party and also the vice presidential candidate, Muhaimin Iskandar, was also present, accompanied by PKB DPP Chairman Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal in the meeting. PKS, PKB, and Nasdem Party are supporters of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as the presidential and vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

Anies explained that since the beginning of his participation in the 2024 Presidential Election, his party does not have any enemies despite being in contestation. What exists are only opponents in a democratic race. "We differentiate between opponents and enemies. If they are enemies, they eliminate each other, but if they are opponents, they strengthen each other," said Anies.

The previous Constitutional Court ruling ensured victory for the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka ticket in the 2024 Presidential Election. Therefore, according to Anies, the Constitutional Court's decision has put an end to the 2024 Presidential Election contest.

Possibility of joining

Meeting with Prabowo is not out of the question. Nevertheless, Anies did not comment on the possibility of joining the future government led by Prabowo.

We respect and appreciate the Constitutional Court's decision. We will carry out our respective duties in our respective fields for a better Indonesia.

According to Anies, the most important thing at the moment is to ensure the transfer of authority from the current President, whose term is about to end, to the elected President, so that it can run smoothly and peacefully.

"We respect and appreciate the decision of the Constitutional Court. We will work in our respective fields and carry out our own tasks for a better Indonesia," he said.

Not according to expectations

On the same occasion, it was stated that PKS respects the decision of the Constitutional Court to reject the lawsuit regarding the 2024 Presidential Election results. Ahmad Syaikhu stated that PKS congratulates the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair as the elected President and Vice President for 2024. "The Constitutional Court's decision on the dispute in the 2024 Presidential Election is final and binding, even though it may not fully meet our expectations," said Syaikhu.

Regarding the post-decision steps of the Constitutional Court, Ahmad Syaikhu stated that PKS still needs to hold discussions held by the council of elders on whether to be outside or join the presidential and vice presidential government with the highest vote getters in the 2024 presidential election, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. PKS's stance will be decided by the council of elders or the Working Body of the Council, namely DPP.

I am conveying this information because it pertains to a strategic domain in accordance with the constitution and bylaws (AD/ART), and will be decided upon by the council of advisers or the working body of the council of advisors, namely the DPP. As the executor, I will carry out whatever decision is made by the council of advisers.

Let's continue the struggle of this change movement at any level and space of struggle. As its name suggests, PKS has a vision of justice and prosperity that must be realized together.

Candidate pair number 1, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, attended the reading of the verdict on the Dispute of the Results of the 2024 Presidential Election at the Constitutional Court in Jakarta on Monday (22/4/2024).

Muhaimin also said that the position of PKB whether to be inside or outside the government is still being discussed internally by the PKB Council of Syura. PKB continues to accommodate all thoughts, considerations, and various communication developments, both internally and externally.

The spirit of change continues

Meanwhile, Muhaimin also stated that he was grateful and thanked being supported by PKB, Nasdem, and PKS in the coalition for change. He hopes that the spirit of change will continue to be pursued to realize a just and prosperous Indonesia for all.

"The struggle for this change movement, let's continue it at any level and space of struggle. As the name suggests, PKS has a vision of justice and prosperity that must be realized together," said Muhaimin.

Anies added that the cooperation between him and the political party that cannot be named is not something new. He hopes to continue maintaining cooperation with them.

"This is not a new matter that, God willing, we will continue in the future journey. We feel that what we have accomplished yesterday, as stated by President Syaikhu earlier, has contributed to coloring Indonesia's democracy. Hopefully, what has been done can become a foundation for the future," said Anies.
