Investigating Allegations of Value Manipulation, Untan FISIP Investigation Team Needs Additional Time

Allegations of manipulation of student grades at FISIP, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, have been asked to be thoroughly investigated.

PONTIANAK, KOMPAS — The investigation team of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, has not submitted any findings regarding the alleged existence of unscrupulous lecturers involved in manipulating student grades. The team needed an additional two days to complete the work.

Previously, a lecturer of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Tanjungpura University (Untan) was suspected of being involved in manipulating the grades of a Political Science Master's student at the campus. The student never attended classes, but their grade appeared in the Academic Information System (Siakad).

However, the lecturer in charge of the course never gave grades. The appearance of the student's grade in Siakad is suspected to be the result of the involvement of a lecturer (Kompas.id, 18/4/2024). Since April 17, 2024, an investigation team has been formed to investigate the case.

Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Untan, Herlan, said that the investigation team has already summoned several witnesses related to the case. However, he refused to disclose the number and identities of the witnesses who have been summoned. This is because it is the responsibility of the investigation team.

Previously, Herlan had stated that the investigation team might present their final conclusion on Tuesday (23/4/2024). However, it turned out that the team needed additional time before presenting the final conclusion.

"They (the investigation team) are still working, wait two more days," said Herlan, Tuesday.

When asked if there were still witnesses called by the investigation team, Herlan did not give a definite answer. "It's possible," he said. Herlan also admitted to giving full authority to the investigation team to carry out their duties.

"I am not part of the investigation team. Who is being called in? I don't know because whatever the outcome, it is fully entrusted to the investigation team," he said.

After the alleged case was revealed, Herlan added that the operator officers in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Untan have been transferred to other departments. This was done so that the investigation team could carry out their duties freely.

Previously, Untan Rector Garuda Wiko stated that Untan is prepared to be open in disclosing the case. He also mentioned that revealing the case is part of the university's responsibility to the public. In addition, Untan also does not want the case to disrupt the academic process at the university.

According to Garuda, the investigative team was formed during a senate meeting at FISIP Untan. The university administration also entrusted the faculty senate to form an investigative team to uncover the alleged case.

"We hope that the investigation team will work quickly, objectively and precisely. "The results of the investigation will be presented," said Garuda.

Disclosure of the case is part of the responsibility to the public.

Similar hopes were expressed by FISIP Untan lecturer, Jumadi. He hopes that the investigative team works professionally, transparently, and objectively, and can find the perpetrators involved in the alleged manipulation.

According to Jumadi, it was not difficult to find the perpetrators involved in the case, both lecturers and students. He also considered that the case tarnished the reputation and good name of tertiary institutions and the world of education in general.
