JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Five neighborhood units (RTs) in South Jakarta were submerged in floods with a height of up to 40 centimeters, Thursday (25/4/2024). This flood was triggered by heavy rain since early Thursday morning.
Based on data from the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), four RTs that were submerged were in Pondok Pinang sub-district, while one RT was in Cipulir sub-district . This number only covers 0.016 percent of the total RT in the Jakarta area, namely 30,772 RT.
The number of residential areas flooded this morning is the same as the number of flooded areas last Wednesday night. In a written statement, the Head of Data and Information Center of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), M Yohan, explained that the five affected areas are located in Pela Mampang sub-district with a height of 30 centimeters (cm). The cause of the flooding was a heavy rain that caused the Mampang River to overflow.
As for one point of flooding, it is located on Kemang Utara Road, Duren Tiga Village, Pancoran District. The water level reached 20 cm. Heavy rain also resulted in five water gates around the Jakarta area being on high alert. Alert level 2 applies to the HEK Kramatjati Water Gate with a height of 254 millimeters (mm).
Meanwhile, the floodgates that are on Alert Level 3 are Cengkareng Drain Floodgate with a height of 249 mm, Hek Baru Floodgate (208 mm), Pompa Pasar Ikan Floodgate (173 mm), and PS Angke Hulu Baru Floodgate (205 mm). With this situation, Yohan urges the public to always be vigilant.
Together with related agencies, said Yohan, his party will try as quickly as possible to reduce the impact of inundation, one of which is by carrying out suction.
"We are targeting the flood to recede as quickly as possible," he said.
Residents living in coastal areas are urged to be vigilant about the possibility of flooding caused by sea water rise (rob). Head of the Jakarta BPBD Execution Body, Isnawa Adji, stated that this prediction refers to data from the BMKG Class I Maritime Meteorology Station in Tanjung Priok regarding the early warning of rob floods. This phenomenon is predicted to occur during the period of April 25-29, 2024.
This phenomenon occurs simultaneously with the full moon phase which has the potential to increase the maximum height of sea level. This condition can trigger coastal flooding or high tides in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta.
"The maximum tide peak is from 21.00 WIB to 24.00 WIB," said Isnawa.
He urged residents living in North Jakarta's coastal areas, such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, and Kalibaru, to remain vigilant and anticipate the potential impacts of the maximum high tide that could cause coastal floods.
