Ahead of the regional elections, PDI-P is challenged to produce a new "Jokowi-Jokowi".

PDI-P will recruit and train the best cadres to become leaders. Giving birth to new "jokowis" is the party's task.

The Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, and the Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), attended a campaign for one of the governor and deputy governor candidate pairs endorsed by the party in the 2013 West Java Regional Election at Tarikolot Field, Nanjung Mekar Village, Rancaekek District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Saturday (16/2/2013).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDI-P asserts that political parties indeed have a duty and function to recruit and educate future leaders. Although President Joko Widodo and his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as well as his son-in-law, Bobby Nasution, are no longer part of the party, PDI-P is confident that they will not lack the best cadres to become national leaders.

The issue of air pollution is not a new matter. The condition of the communities threatened by air pollution has been occurring for a long time. There is also no lack of research evidence indicating the threats posed by air pollution. However, this has yet to result in significant efforts to control air pollution. As a result, residents are increasingly suffering due to exposure to air pollution. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will strive to win the 2024 Regional Head Elections as a momentum to find potential figures who will become national leaders. Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) PDI-P for Ideology and Cadre Development, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, stated during a Thursday (25/4/2024) interview that the PDI-P has the task and function of recruiting and educating potential leaders. Therefore, he is confident that the PDI-P will continue to produce the best leaders.

"The PDI-P will try to win this regional election by nominating internal candidates first. We have qualified figures for this. We will also narrow down who will receive the party's recommendation to run in the election," said Djarot.

According to Djarot, all members of PDI-P will definitely participate in education and party consolidation at the party school. In finding potential figures to support in the 2024 Regional Elections, PDI-P will be more selective and thoroughly examine factors such as popularity, electability, capacity, and track record.

By being more selective, PDI-P doesn't want to be missed again like in the case of Jokowi, Gibran, and Bobby Nasution. Because, ahead of 2024 presidential election, Jokowi and his family are starting to leave PDI-P by not supporting Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates supported by PDI-P. Even though Ganjar-Mahfud lost in the 2024 presidential election, PDI-P emerged as the winner of the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg) with the highest number of votes, beating Golkar and the Gerindra Party and other parties.

So the 2024 regional elections are not only an evaluation but also a consolidation of party strength. A consolidation between the party and the people. We ask everyone to come down and meet the people.

It is known that Jokowi began his political career in the PDI-P since the 2005 and 2010 Surakarta Mayoral Elections, and served as president for two terms, namely 2014-2019 and 2019-2024. Gibran also began his political career by running in the 2020 Surakarta Mayoral Elections as a candidate from the PDI-P and was elected. Similar success was felt by Bobby, who ran in the 2020 Medan Mayoral Elections and is currently serving as the Mayor of Medan.

PDI-P still has capital and strength

According to Executive Director of Charta Politika, Yunarto Wijaya, the loss of Jokowi and his family did contribute to PDI-P's defeat in the 2024 Presidential Election. However, with the victory that can still be achieved by the "bull" in the legislative election, the party has the potential to remain a strategic political force in the future even though Jokowi and his family are no longer with the party.

PDI-P's capital to remain a strategic political party cannot be separated from its strong ideological base and mass infrastructure.

The fact that PDI-P remains a strategic political party is not separate from its strong ideology basis and mass infrastructure. Therefore, even if Jokowi, Gibran, and Bobby are no longer with the party, the party will still survive. However, in order to return to the pinnacle of success as in the 2014 and 2019 elections, the party is required to further optimize the party's regeneration and cadre training.

The regeneration of leaders and cadres that the party has enjoyed since the emergence of Jokowi and the repeated victories in the 2014 and 2019 elections need to be reproduced.

Executive Director of Charta Politika Indonesia, Yunarto Wijaya, presented the results of a survey titled "Evaluation of Policies and Political Maps during the Pandemic", held online on Thursday (12/8/2021).

The PDI-P must be able to produce a figure who is like Jokowi, a high achiever who comes from a grassroots political career, has served as a regional leader or held a public office that is considered good by the community. This way, it can become a new electoral magnet for the PDI-P.

"PDI-P must be able to produce a figure similar to Jokowi, namely successful, coming from a political career from the bottom, having been a regional leader or having held public positions that are considered good by the public. Thus, it can become a new electoral magnet for PDI-P," said Yunarto.

Regarding this matter, it is seen that the PDI-P will not lack the best cadres. Several of the best cadres have already been seen, both in the central and regional executive and legislative levels. The PDI-P can also utilize the 2024 simultaneous regional elections to create new "Jokowi-like" figures that can become electoral magnets in the next general election.

"The PDI-P must maximize the 2024 simultaneous regional elections as a new opportunity to search for talented individuals from their cadres who have the potential to become national leaders. This means determining the mechanism for selecting candidates, capturing the aspirations of the community that will determine the quality of the candidates in the elections, and creating an effect similar to Jokowi's era in the previous gubernatorial election that can be achieved by the PDI-P," concluded Yunarto.
