Meet the Minister of State Secretary, Ahmad Doli, Discuss Improving the Political System

The momentum that pushed for improvements to the political system included Prabowo Subianto's speech about democracy which was tiring and expensive.

Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, gave a press statement following a casual meeting with State Secretary Minister Pratikno at the Office of the Ministry of State Secretariat, Jakarta, on Thursday (25/4/2024).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, at the State Secretariat Office in Jakarta. In their conversation, they also discussed the improvement of the political system through the revision of several laws. Ideally, the improvement should be carried out in the first few months of the new government.

"Everyone has the same spirit, the same tone , there needs to be improvements to our election system. "In fact, friends from Commission II said that there needs to be improvements to our political system because later we will talk about revising or improving the Political Party Law, the Regional Government Law, the Law on DPRD and so on," said Doli, Thursday (25/4/2024).

Starting the refinement of the political system under the new government is considered appropriate, as the General Election (Pemilu) will be held in five years. "The election is still five years away. So if we have a full year, we can complete the Election Law. Moreover, if we can also finish the political law package, we only have 4 years left. We can use the following three years for socialization," added Doli.

The issue of air pollution is not new. The condition of the community threatened by air pollution has been around for a long time. There is also no shortage of research evidence indicating the threats of air pollution's impacts. However, this has not been able to push for significant efforts in controlling air pollution. Residents are increasingly suffering, living in the midst of air pollution. The House of Representatives (DPR) has also proposed revisions to the Electoral Law and Regional Elections Law since 2019. However, the proposal was hindered by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Doli, the current moment is the right time for improvement. Especially since the Constitutional Court's ruling has instructed the lawmakers to perfect the Electoral Law before 2029.

The elected President and Vice-President, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, briefly answered journalists' questions after receiving their appointment letters as President and Vice-President from the General Election Commission at the Open Plenary Meeting for the Appointment of Elected Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates for the 2024 Election at the KPU RI building in Jakarta on Wednesday (24/4/2024).

Another moment pushing for political system improvement is the speech of Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto, who stated that democracy in Indonesia is exhausting, expensive, and needs improvement. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono also said that democracy in Indonesia is expensive and needs improvement.

The election is still 5 years away. So if we work for a full year, we can finish the Election Law. Moreover, if we can also complete the political package, we only have 4 years left. We can focus on socialization during the following 3 years.

After the determination of the elected president and vice president by the KPU, Doli, who is also the Vice Chairman of Golkar, emphasized that the preparation of the upcoming cabinet composition is still ongoing. The gathering of parties outside of the Koalisi Indonesia Maju towards Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka is considered a good thing.

"From the beginning, one of our considerations in supporting Mr. Prabowo is the big narrative that he always conveys, which is how Indonesia can move forward by staying united, together, solid and building unity," said Doli.

The elected president of the 2024 elections, Prabowo Subianto, embraced National Democrat Party Chairman Surya Paloh after holding a press conference following their meeting at Prabowo's house on Kertanegara Street, Jakarta, Thursday (4/25/2024).

Doli also emphasized that the composition of the future cabinet is Prabowo's prerogative. Prabowo is believed to have his own formula for forming the next cabinet. Responding to the meeting between Prabowo and the Chairman of the Nasdem Party, Surya Paloh, Doli admitted that he is not worried if Golkar's seats will decrease in the future.

According to Doli, the formulation of the cabinet composition agreed upon by Prabowo and the leaders of KIM political parties has not been completed. One of the formulations is expected to consider the calculation of votes obtained in the previous legislative election. "The inauguration is still on October 20, there is still a long time. Although I am confident that there have been initial discussions, the final decision will still take a while," he said.

Separately, Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Anak Agung Gde Ngurah Ari Dwipayana emphasized that President Joko Widodo had congratulated the elected president and vice president Prabowo-Gibran. President Jokowi also expressed the government's full support to ensure that the government transition process in October 2024 runs well and smoothly.

President Jokowi received Prabowo and Gibran on Wednesday (24/4/2024) at Istana Merdeka. The meeting was initiated and requested by Prabowo and Gibran to directly convey their appointment as elected president and vice president by the KPU following the Constitutional Court's ruling.

President Jokowi hopes that the new government led by the directly elected president and vice president can start working after being inaugurated on October 20, 2024. President Jokowi also supports the initiatives and steps of the elected president and vice president to embrace all components of the nation in a joint effort to realize Indonesia Maju.

At the moment, national unity is very much needed, especially in facing the impacts of the global economic-political situation that is currently turbulent. President Jokowi will also support and prepare for the inclusion of the elected President and Vice President's flagship programs in the 2025 National Medium-Term Development Plan and State Budget (RKP and RAPBN), including those that can be immediately executed after October 20, 2024.

"His spirit is to oversee the sustainability of development to realize an Advanced Indonesia for which President Jokowi has laid the foundation," said Dwipayana.
