Passing Administrative Verification, DKPP Processes Alleged Immoral Acts of KPU Chairman

The Election Organizer Honorary Council continues to verify the material of complaints of alleged immorality by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari against PPLN members. If the requirements are met, the trial will be held closed.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The complaint report alleged immoral acts by the Chairman of the General Election Commission Hasyim Asy'ari has now passed administrative verification by the Honorary Council Election Organizer or DKPP. The process continues to material verification. If declared to meet the requirements, the examination hearing will be carried out by DKPP, although behind closed doors.

As for the DKPP, it is processing a report from the community regarding allegations of sexual misconduct committed by Hasyim Asy'ari towards a member of the Foreign Election Committee (PPLN). Before entering the trial stage, the report will be verified first, both administratively and materially.

Member of the Electoral Organizer Honor Council (DKPP), I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi, said that the complaint of alleged sexual misconduct by Hasyim has gone through administrative verification process and declared eligible. The next process is material verification.

"The administrative verification for the reported complaint has been conducted and deemed qualified. However, the material verification is still in progress," he said when contacted from Jakarta on Friday (April 26, 2024)."

In handling reports of alleged violations of immoral acts, if they meet the material requirements, DKPP will conduct closed examination sessions. "If a report of alleged immoral violation meets the material requirements and is tried, according to the provisions, the examination session will be conducted in a closed manner," he added.

"Regarding a complaint of alleged indecent violation, if it meets material requirements and is prosecuted, according to the provision of the trial, the examination hearing will be conducted in closed session."

Until now, DKPP is processing 218 complaints submitted since January 2024. 143 of them are still in the complaint department of DKPP. Essentially, DKPP always follows up on every complaint received.

Previously, Hasyim was also reported for the same ethical case titled "golden woman" at the end of 2022. Hasnaeni reported Hasyim for alleged sexual misconduct committed against her. The report resulted in DKPP giving a final strong warning sanction to Hasyim in April 2023.

One year after the ethical decision, Hasyim is once again reported for allegations of sexual misconduct towards a member of PPLN. Representatives from the Legal Assistance Consultation Institution at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH FH UI) reported the allegations on Thursday (17/4/2024). Hasyim is accused of repeatedly committing acts of sexual misconduct.

The legal representative of the victim from LKBH FH UI, Aristo Pangaribuan, stated that Hasyim was involved in a relationship with unequal power dynamics with a member of PPLN. Since their initial meeting in August 2023, Hasyim is suspected to have attempted to approach, seduce, and engage in lewd acts towards the PPLN member.

Hasyim is accused of promising and manipulating information to persuade members of PPLN for his own personal interests. Because of this, Hasyim is said to have abused his position and authority for personal gain.

Meanwhile, until now, Hasyim has not wanted to speak out about the alleged sexual misconduct case that has befallen him. He stated that he would wait for the right time to answer public questions about it. "I will respond at the appropriate time. I'm sorry," he said on Thursday (April 18, 2024).
