Hasto: Many PDI-P Branch Managers Reject the Megawati-Jokowi Meeting

Many PDI-P officials in the regions rejected the plan for Megawati and Jokowi to meet. This is because of "emotional bonding"

Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hasto Kristiyanto, provided guidance during a coordination meeting held by the Majalengka branch executive board (DPC) in West Java on Saturday (27/4/2024).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, Hasto Kristiyanto, revealed that many branch managers and officials reject the plan for a meeting between PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Joko Widodo. The rejection from regional managers is due to the direct pressure and use of state apparatus, as well as the electoral fraud that occurs from top to bottom in the 2024 Election.

When attending a coordination meeting held by the Majalengka Branch Management Board (DPC) in West Java on Saturday (27/4/2024), Hasto stated that many sub-branch and branch officials in the region sent messages rejecting the idea of a meeting between Megawati and President Jokowi. What was conveyed by the grassroots members of the PDI-P represents the true voice.

"Many branch administrators asked us not to do (the Megawati-Jokowi meeting). This is the voice of truth. Administrators in this area joined PDI-P because there was an emotional bonding (response to perceived attitudes). "This is leadership that is one with the breath of the people," said Hasto in a written statement.

On that occasion, Hasto also conveyed greetings from Megawati to the attending branch officials. Megawati expressed her gratitude for the hard work of all the officials in the 2024 Election.

"He expressed his gratitude to the officials and members up to the branch and sub-branch levels. Because, amidst pressure and the use of state instruments in various upstream-downstream cheating, the branch officials, sub-branch members, and DPC PDI-P were able to stand up and win the election three times in a row," said Hasto.

People's power

The three consecutive victories of the PDI-P in the legislative elections, according to Hasto, happened due to the PDI-P's solidarity and the unity of the people's strength. Although cheating and intimidation occurred during the election, PDI-P's seat acquisition at the district/city level actually increased.

The person expressed thanks to the management and members, up to the branch and sub-branch levels. Because in the midst of pressure, the use of state instruments in various upstream-downstream frauds, branch managers, sub-branch managers, and DPC PDI-P were able to stand firm and win the elections three times in a row.

PDI-P must continue to move forward, even though the democratic condition is shaken by the national political process during the 2024 Presidential Election. PDI-P will focus on winning the simultaneous regional head elections in 2024, which will be held in November.

Hasto emphasized that the key to winning the simultaneous regional elections is for all party officials to be united. He urged that there should be no more individuals claiming to be friends but are actually traitors. He reminded that during the upcoming elections, there will be several political troubles attempting to eliminate the solidarity of the PDI-P. "Therefore, the key to facing the elections, the first requirement, is that we must be united," said Hasto.

President Joko Widodo, along with the General Chairman of PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri and PDI-P's presidential nominee Ganjar Pranowo, the Chairman of DPP PDI-P Puan Maharani and Ananda Prabowo, the Secretary General of DPP PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto, the Treasurer General of DPP PDI-P Olly Dondokambe, and senior cadre Pramono Anung, attended the opening of the Third National Working Meeting of PDI-P at the PDI Perjuangan Party School in Lenteng Agung, Jakarta, on Tuesday (6/6/2023).

PDI-P also believes that the key remains in unity with the people. PDI-P will always choose to be present alongside the people and become a solution for them. Every member must always remember that the truth lies in the hands of the people.

The clearest conscience is found within the lower class citizens. Therefore, learning from elections, every cadre must display their true character. Because the true test is not when one is struggling to become a leader, but the real test is when they have already gained power.

The Chairman of the Majalengka PDI-P DPC, Karna Sobahi, stated that the results of the 2024 Presidential Election have not reached the target due to extraordinary dynamics such as pressure and interference from the authorities. However, the results of the legislative elections show a positive outcome, namely the retention of 15 seats in Majalengka and an increase in votes.

He requested that in facing the upcoming simultaneous regional elections, the cadre can still maintain togetherness and solidarity. "We ensure that no cadres will defect. When they are asked to defect, they refuse, even cry if I were to defect," said Karna.
