PKS Political Position Has Not Been Decided, Salim Segaf Emphasizes Togetherness

PKS is ready to be inside and outside government. The Syuro Council will decide on PKS' political stance and position.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS – The Syuro Council of the Prosperous Justice Party or PKS has not yet decided on its political stance and direction following the appointment of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as elected president-vice president for the 2024-2029 period. Intensive discussions are still being held by the Party Level Leadership Council taking into account all existing input.

A meeting with Prabowo Subianto will be planned again after the PKS Halalbihalal event was not attended by Prabowo. Previously, PKS held an Idul Fitri Halalbihalal and 22nd Anniversary of Tasyakuran Milad at the PKS DPP Office in Jakarta on Saturday (27/4/2024), inviting Prabowo. However, Prabowo was unable to attend due to a similar event with his family.

A number of high-ranking political party officials who attended included General Chair of the Nasdem Party Surya Paloh, Acting General Chair of the United Development Party Mardiono, Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Utut Adianto, and Chairman of the DPP Amanat Party National Saleh Daulay.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Muzani, the Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party Central Executive Board, did not attend the event. Previously, the Secretary-General of the PKS, Aboe Bakar Al-Habsyi, had stated that even though Prabowo did not attend, he would likely be represented by Muzani. The Secretary-General of Gerindra was even mentioned by Aboe to still be on the way.

When giving directions at the PKS halalbihalal event, Chairman of the PKS Syuro Council, Salim Segaf Al-Jufri, said that togetherness is the key to success in building the nation and state. However, this statement is not meant to be a signal that PKS will join the coalition government in the future.

The need for togetherness

According to Salim Segaf, there is not a single political party in the 2024 election that manages to obtain more than 50 percent of the vote. Some political parties only receive vote counts such as 16 percent, 15 percent, or even 9 percent. Therefore, unity is very necessary to build the nation and the state.

"So, building a nation is not just about love and loyalty, but are we ready to hold hands together to provide prosperity for all citizens and the nation," said Salim Segaf.

Salim Segaf hopes that party leaders and national figures have the same intention to realize national justice. Although there are differences, he is confident that there will be a common ground to achieve the nation's aspirations.

Ahmad Syaikhu stated that PKS is ready to collaborate in building the nation, both within and outside of the government. During the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, PKS was in the government, and then PKS was outside of the government during the era of President Jokowi.

PKS only respects the decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the dispute over the results of the 2024 Presidential Election.

Definitively, the party's decision will be conveyed after the results of the Syuro Council's deliberations in determining whether to join the Prabowo-Gibran government or not. Intensive discussions are still being carried out by the Central Level Leadership Council (DPTP) which consists of members of the Syuro Council and the Central Leadership Council.

"The position of PKS in Prabowo's government will be determined more definitively by the Majelis Syuro, but it has already been delegated and discussed by DPTP. DPTP will conduct intensive communication. In principle, until today we have only declared our respect for the decision of the Constitutional Court," said Hidayat Nur Wahid.

Although PKS's halalbihalal event was not attended by Prabowo, PKS believes that a meeting with him is only a matter of time and scheduling. PKS Secretary-General Aboe Bakar Al-Habsyi said that a meeting between PKS and Prabowo will definitely take place. They have already established a dialogue with Prabowo's faction and will only need to confirm a suitable time for both parties to meet.

The Chairman of the Nasdem Party, Surya Paloh, stated that if PKS joins the Prabowo-Gibran government, it would be a good step. According to him, there needs to be unity to address the problems facing the nation.

He added that although Nasdem has supported and joined the coalition of the Prabowo-Gibran government going forward, they have not yet discussed the ministerial allocation they will receive with Prabowo. He realizes that his party is a new member of the Prabowo camp.
