Khofifah admitted that four parties had given her the task of running for the East Java gubernatorial election.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that he would focus on running as a candidate for governor of East Java in the simultaneous regional head elections, November 2024. He will run again with Emil Elestianto Dardak as a candidate for governor and candidate for deputy governor of East Java. At least four parties have assigned him to contest in the East Java Governor Election.

Khofifah, upon being met after the Halalbihalal event of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) at the PBNU Office in Jakarta on Sunday (28/4/2024), stated that she will not serve as a minister in the government of the president-vice president-elect in the 2024 elections, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Instead, she will focus on running again as a candidate for governor of East Java.

"Oh, I'm not going to be a minister. From the beginning, I have stated that, Insha Allah, I will only focus on East Java. Anyway, for this period, I will, Insha Allah, participate in the contest for the East Java Governor Election," said Khofifah.

The governor of East Java for the 2019-2024 period denies rumors about him being touted to run in the Jakarta Special Region gubernatorial election. "I want to continue my duties in East Java. Hopefully the people of East Java can provide support," he said.

Khofifah admitted that, to date, there have been at least four parties that have given her the task of running in the East Java gubernatorial election. The four parties are the Gerindra Party, the Golkar Party, the Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN). "Since December 2023, (the four parties) have given assignment letters (to me)," he said.

God willing, I will focus only on East Java. Anyway, for this period, I will God willing participate in the contest for the East Java Governor Election.

Regarding her running mate, Khofifah stated that she feels comfortable running again with Emil Elestianto Dardak, who is now the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Jawa Timur. Emil Dardak also served as Khofifah's companion five years ago.

"God willing, I feel comfortable and productive with Mas Emil. "Hopefully we can be together again," he said.

Separately, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hasto Kristiyanto, said that his party is open to the possibility of collaborating with the Gerindra Party to support Khofifah in the East Java gubernatorial election.

Although they are opposed in the 2024 Presidential Election, Hasto mentioned that political dynamics in regions can vary widely. His party has also collaborated with Gerindra after the 2019 Presidential Election.

"When in 2014 and 2019, Mr. Prabowo and Mr. Jokowi faced each other, we also had cooperation in the implementation of simultaneous regional elections. So, there is no problem in building cooperation because the dynamics of local politics are different from the national level," said Hasto.
