Candidates Participate in the Selection of Candidates for Governor of Lampung

A number of political parties have begun to communicate and open the field for candidates for governor of Lampung.

BANDAR LAMPUNG, KOMPAS — A number of political parties have begun to establish communication and open the selection process for candidates for governor of Lampung for the 2024-2029 period. Figures who are ready to run in the regional head elections also take part in the selection process.

One of the political parties that has started the process of selecting candidates for the governor of Lampung is PDI-P. The party has opened the selection process from April 22nd to May 20th, 2024.

The Secretary of the PDI-P's Screening Team, Aprilliati, said that they appreciated those who have registered for the screening of gubernatorial candidates in Lampung, which was opened by the PDI-P. The open screening can be followed by anyone, both political and non-political figures. As of Sunday (28/4/2024), at least three people have registered for the screening opened by the PDI-P.

Two candidates registered early, namely Riswan Mura and Abu Hasan. Riswan Mura is a wood entrepreneur from Tulang Bawang Regency. Meanwhile, Abu Hasan is a figure who was once the leader of the Fair and Prosperous People's Party (Prima) of Lampung. The party did not qualify as a participant in the 2024 election.

Meanwhile, another candidate is Hanan A. Rozak, a politician from the Golkar Party who registered in the selection process of the PDI-P on Saturday (27/4/2024). Hanan is a member of the Indonesian parliament for the 2019-2024 period and has been re-elected for the 2024-2029 period.

In the 2024 Legislative Elections, Hanan obtained 93,470 votes in electoral district II of Lampung. Previously, he also served as the Regent of Tulang Bawang for the 2012-2017 period.

According to Aprilliati, Hanan's visit to the PDI-P office in Lampung was not just to pick up a registration form, but also to establish relationships and communication with PDI-P. She stated that the selection of Lampung's gubernatorial candidate will be decided by the PDI-P DPP.

"The Screening Team is only limited to carrying out screening in accordance with the mechanism determined by the PDI-P DPP. We have also conveyed other matters, all aspects related to the process of administrative screening will later proceed according to the existing mechanism," he said.

In the 2024 legislative elections, PDI-P is predicted to win 13 seats in the Lampung Regional Council (DPRD). To be able to endorse a candidate pair, the party must form a coalition to obtain at least five additional seats. Meanwhile, the Golkar Party obtained 11 seats.

Another party that has also opened the field for candidates for governor of Lampung is PAN. Hanan A Rozak and Riswan Mura also took part in the selection process opened by PAN to seek support from other parties.

Regarding this, Hanan said that he was assigned by the Golkar Party to build communication with other parties in Lampung. He hopes to get support to run in Lampung regional elections.

As a figure who has been in the bureaucracy and politics for a long time, Hanan said he has enough experience to run as a candidate for governor of Lampung, in accordance with the task given by the Golkar Party. Before being elected as a member of the House of Representatives for two periods, he led Tulang Bawang District. Previously, he worked as a civil servant for more than 30 years and held several positions in local government.

"It was these friends who actually urged me to move forward and fight together to make Lampung even better," he said.

Meanwhile, Umar Ahmad, a PDI-P politician whose name is also emerging as one of the candidates for governor of Lampung, said that as a PDI-P cadre, he was ready to be assigned anywhere. Until now he has not participated in the selection process opened by PDI-P. "Regarding the positions (governor and deputy governor), we see the benefits. "That is purely the authority of the DPP," said Umar.

The Screening Team is only limited to carrying out screening and screening according to the mechanism determined by the PDI-P DPP.

As a member of the PDI-P, he supports all steps and policies of the party in determining the candidate pairs to be supported in the regional elections. The determination of these candidate pairs is, of course, based on various considerations to ensure victory.

Another figure

Apart from the figures who have participated in the party's candidate selection process, several other names have also emerged as potential candidates in the 2024-2029 Lampung Governor and Vice Governor elections. At the Golkar Party, in addition to Hanan, incumbent Arinal Djunaidi also has the opportunity to run again in this year's election.

In Gerindra Party, the prominent name is the Chairperson of Gerindra Lampung Regional Leadership Council, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal. Mirzani is a member of Lampung regional parliament for the 2019-2024 period and was re-elected for the 2024-2029 period. In the 2024 Legislative Election, he gained 40,469 votes in constituency I of Bandar Lampung.

Mirzani is considered a potential cadre after successfully leading Gerindra to become the winning party in the 2024 legislative elections in Lampung. The party founded by Prabowo Subianto won 16 seats out of a total of 85 seats in the Lampung Regional People's Representative Council.

Compared to the 2019 legislative elections, Gerindra gained five additional seats in this year's elections. However, Gerindra still has to form a coalition with other parties to be able to support their candidates.

Candidate pair number 3, Arinal Djunaidi-Chusnunia, participated in a candidate debate event held by the Lampung Provincial Election Commission some time ago.

Meanwhile, in the political party PKB, there is the name of Chusnunia Chalim, the Vice Governor of Lampung from 2019-2023, who has the opportunity to run in the Lampung regional election. In the 2024 Legislative Election, Chusnunia was elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives with a total of 143,422 votes in the Lampung II electoral district. Currently, she also serves as the Chairperson of the PKB Regional Executive Board in Lampung. In the legislative election, PKB obtained 11 seats in the Regional House of Representatives.

The Head of the Nasdem Regional Executive Board in Lampung, Herman HN, also received support from the Nasdem Regional Executive Board in 15 districts/cities. Herman HN previously served as the Mayor of Bandar Lampung for two terms, namely from 2010-2015 and from 2016-2021. In the 2024 Election, Nasdem won 10 seats in the Lampung Regional House of Representatives.

Currently, candidates and political parties are certainly calculating their steps to run for the governor and vice-governor elections in Lampung in 2024. They are also considering the strength of their political opponents to come out as winners.
