Serumpun Country, Prabowo and Malaysian Minister of Defense Strengthen Special Relations

Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to foster good relations, especially in defense and safety aspects.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Malaysian Defense Minister Yang Mulia Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in his office in Jakarta on Tuesday (April 30, 2024). In the meeting, Prabowo expressed his hope to enhance cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia, especially in the areas of defense, intelligence, and defense industries.

After being designated as the presidential candidate with the most votes by the Elections Commission, Prabowo Subianto, who is also the Defense Minister of Indonesia, has met with various high-ranking officials aside from the Japanese defense minister in early April. In fact, Prabowo has also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on April 1 and 3, 2024, respectively.

Yesterday, Tuesday (30/4/2024), Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Malaysian Defense Minister Yang Mulia Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in his office at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta. During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his hopes to enhance cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly in the fields of defense, intelligence, and defense industries.

In this bilateral meeting, Prabowo congratulated His Excellency Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on his appointment as the new Minister of Defense of Malaysia.

Khaled Nordin has been serving as the Minister of Defense since December 2023 under the administration of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Prior to this, he also served as the Minister of Higher Education during the Najib Razak administration.

Therefore, Prabowo hopes that the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia can be even better. "Indonesia hopes to establish even closer cooperation in the areas of defense, intelligence, defense industry, and stronger education with Malaysia, particularly in terms of military student exchange and defense industry," said Prabowo.

Malaysia is a country that is allied to Indonesia and has special relations, especially in the defense sector.

Prabowo also reiterated Indonesia's respect for sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity and security in the region.
