Alleged Value Manipulation in Untan, Investigation Results Submitted to the Chancellor

The results of the investigation into alleged manipulation of grades at Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, have been submitted to the chancellor.

PONTIANAK, KOMPAS — Investigation of alleged value manipulation of students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Tanjungpura University , Pontianak, West Kalimantan, has been completed. The investigation team has submitted the conclusions of their work to the Chancellor of Tanjungpura University for further processing.

Previously, an individual lecturer FISIP Tanjungpura University (Untan) was suspected of being involved in manipulating the grades of a political science master's student on that campus. The student never attended college, but his grades appeared in the Academic Information System (Siakad).

However, the lecturer in charge of the course never gives grades. The appearance of the student's grades in Siakad is suspected to be due to the involvement of a lecturer (Kompas.id, 18/4/2024).

On April 17, 2024, the Senate of FISIP Untan formed an investigation team consisting of five people to investigate the case. Since then, the investigation team has been working diligently and has summoned several witnesses related to the case.

Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Untan, Herlan, stated that the investigation team has completed its task. "The results of the investigation have been submitted to the Rector of Untan on May 2, 2024," he said on Friday (3/5/2024).

Furthermore, according to Herlan, the Rector of Untan will process the results of the investigation team's work. Herlan admitted that he did not receive a copy of the investigation results.

"Because the Untan FISIP investigation team worked at the request of the Untan Chancellor, the results were submitted to the Chancellor," said Herlan.

When met on Thursday, Untan Garuda Wiko, the Rector of Untan, stated that the investigation team is working meticulously and carefully, paying attention to the completeness of the information gathered. That is the reason why there are some witnesses who need to be summoned in order for the team's work to become comprehensive.

Garuda added that his party wanted to resolve the case completely. Because, this concerns academic issues related to the credibility of tertiary institutions.

Moreover, the community is also waiting for concrete steps from Untan in handling the case. "We do not want Untan to lose public trust," said Garuda.

One of the lecturers at FISIP Untan, Jumadi, questioned why the S-2 student's grade could appear in the Siakad system. As a lecturer, Jumadi never gave a grade because the student had never attended any lectures. In fact, the student has never once attended a class.

Jumadi believes that it is not difficult to find the actors involved in the case, both among lecturers and students. He also assesses that the issue has tarnished the reputation and good name of the university and the education world in general.
