LPS Half Marathon Stops in Medan, Attacked by Families of Running Addicts

MEDAN, KOMPAS — LPS Monas Half Marathon visited Medan City in the event Run The City Medan. The 5 kilometer run spread the "virus" of sports enthusiasm with the family. A total of 1,000 participants will cross the streets and historic iconic buildings in Medan City, starting from the Tjong A Fie House, the Kesawan area, the old city, to Benteng Square.

The runners' enthusiasm began to be felt when they picked up the race pack at the Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel and Convention Medan, North Sumatra, Saturday (4/5/2024). They come from various running communities, school children, students, and families.

After taking the race pack, the runners took photos together on various backgrounds that had been prepared. Many runners are families consisting of father, mother and children.

"For a year now, our family has been addicted to running. For Run The City, my husband, myself, and our elementary school-aged child all participated," said Nur Hasanah Nasution (39), a resident of Medan.

Run The City is a pre-event towards the 2024 LPS Monas Half Marathon which will be held in Jakarta, on June 30 2024. The highlight of the event will be attended by 5,000 runners from many regions in Indonesia, it was held by LPS in collaboration with the daily Kompas (Kompas.id) and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.

Nur came with her husband and three children. They have prepared themselves to try out the Run The City route which will start in front of the Governor's Office North Sumatra, Sunday (5/5/2024) at 06.30 WIB. From there, the route will pass the LPS I Medan Office at Sinar Mas Land Plaza, then to Jalan KH Zainul Arifin, and Jalan S Parman.

The runner then turned onto Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Jalan Pemuda, and onto Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, passing the Tjong A Fie House, which is a historical building in Medan. The runner then passed Kesawan, turned into the old town area on Jalan Perdana, and finished at Lapangan Benteng.

Nur stated that in the past year, she has participated in almost every running event in the city of Medan. Her family, including her children, regularly go for runs in the evening at Jasdam Gaperta Field on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

"My first-grade child has already circled the field four times. Meanwhile, my fifth-grade child has completed 10 laps and has even participated in a 10-kilometer race," said Nur.

According to Nur, running is the most suitable sport for all family members. They started running since her husband stopped smoking.

"If the holidays are not filled with running, all family members are busy playing with their respective cellphones. We've been addicted to running for a year. "Not only are we getting healthier, our family members' relationships are also becoming more intimate," said Nur.

Another family couple also seemed united in taking a race pack together, namely Reno (44) and Elva (43). They are also members of the Medan Merdeka Runners (MMR) community. Running also makes their family relationships closer.

"Usually, our children also participate in running events. This time, it's just the two of us for a more romantic feel," said Reno with a laugh.

Run The Ground Medan, which is part of the LPS Monas Half Marathon event, is preparing to be participated in by runners from various communities in Medan, North Sumatra on Sunday (17/3/2024).

The captain of the Medan Merdeka Runners (MMR), Gunawan Utomo, said that increasingly intense running events in Medan brought a "virus" of running enthusiasm that was getting bigger. The running ecosystem in Medan is developing very rapidly. Almost all the fields and streets in the city center are filled with runners every morning and evening.

Head of the Office for Preparation for the Implementation of the LPS Banking Restructuring and Institutional Relations Program, Hermawan Wibowo, said that Run The City circled the heritage icon in Medan until the finish. ”Run The City is afun run. So, everyone must be happy," said Hermawan.

Run The City also brings institutional messages to inform the public about the presence of the LPS I Medan Representative Office. The existence of the representative office will provide additional assurance of the safety of their savings, as guaranteed by the LPS.

Vice General Manager of Kompas Daily Events (Kompas.id) Budhi Sarwiadi said, Run the City invites residents of three cities to participate more in the excitement of the 5 kilometer fun run. Run the City will be attended by 1,000 runners in each city starting from Medan, Makassar, to Surabaya.
