US Allies Disappointed by Accusations of Foreign Hate

Joe Biden said xenophobic attitudes in China, Japan and India were hampering their economic growth.

TOKYO, SATURDAY - Allies The United States in Asia, Japan, is disappointed with accusations of hating foreigners. Similar accusations and disappointment have been leveled at India, another country the United States continues to court.

According to Kyodo News on Saturday (4/5/2024), Japan expressed its disappointment quietly to the US. Tokyo called the allegations unfounded and lacking accurate understanding of Japan's policies.

US President Joe Biden made this accusation at a campaign fundraising event. He called India, Japan and China anti-immigrant and foreign-hating countries. Because of this, the economies of these countries are in trouble.

According to Biden, the US shows the opposite. The US economy continues to thrive because it is able to accept immigrants. Coordinator of Communications for the US National Security Council, John Kirby, stated that Biden's intention is that the US greatly accepts immigrants.

Nevertheless, two countries close to the US are angry. Indian Foreign Minister Subhramanyam Jaishankar said that the Indian economy did not fall. History also shows that India is an open country. "That's why we have a Citizenship Law that is open to people in distress. We must be open to people who need to come to India and have strong reasons to come to India," he said.

He refers to the new law that allows India to accept immigrants from its neighbors. The condition is that the immigrant must be a victim of persecution. However, the law has been criticized for closing opportunities for certain groups.

India provides ease for Hindu, Persian, Sikh, Buddha, Jain, and Christian immigrants fleeing from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. However, this rule does not apply to Muslim residents who flee to India.

Historical facts also show China's, Japan's, and Russia's acceptance of foreigners. China's modernization, among other things, was due to the presence of Japanese and Taiwanese technicians several decades ago. Nowadays, China also routinely brings in foreign experts and academics.

Meanwhile, Russia is accepting immigrants from several former Soviet Union countries. There are thousands of immigrants from Central Asia residing in Russia, both legally and illegally.
