JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Indonesian U-23 football team still has one chance to compete in the 2024 Olympics, namely by playing in the play-off round against the Guinean U-23 team. Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and President Joko Widodo also expressed their hope that the Indonesian U-23 team could beat Guinea so they could win tickets to the Paris Olympics.

According to the plan, this match will take place in Clairefontaine, France on Thursday (9/5/2024). "Enter the Olympics. It is a pride, an achievement, and also an encouragement," said Vice President Amin during a press conference at the An-Nawawi Tanara Islamic boarding school in Serang, Banten on Saturday (4/5/2024).

Accompanying the Vice President during this press conference were Acting Governor of Banten Al Muktabar, Chairman of KDEKS Banten Siti Ma'rifah, as well as the Vice President's special staff in Communication and Information, Masduki Baidlowi.

If the Indonesian U-23 team can make it to the Paris Olympics, it is considered to be able to inspire the younger generation of Indonesia. "Because, later on (for) the next generation (it will) become a motivation, inspiration. If our older siblings can do it, why can't we? That's what we want to push," said Vice President Amin.

The Vice President once again called on all Indonesian people to continue giving support and prayers to the U-23 team who will face a tough match against African representatives, Guinea. "(Please) pray that this time they can qualify for the Olympics. (So far) they have never made it. That's why we pray," said Vice President Amin.

On this occasion, the Vice President also commented on Indonesia's match against Iraq. According to him, Indonesia was actually able to keep up with Iraq's game but lost due to luck and fatigue factors.

"I consider that we were not actually defeated by Iraq, but rather it was just bad luck. Because the game was actually evenly matched, right? According to the coach, it was due to fatigue," said the Vice President.
