Uber Indonesia vs China Final: The "Red and White" Team Behind 0-2

Indonesia trailed 0-2 after Fadia/Ribka lost to the Chinese pair, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan.

CHENGDU, SUNDAY — Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Ribka Sugiarto were unable to do much against Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan in the second Uber Cup final at the Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium , China, Sunday (5/5/2024). The Indonesian team was left behind 0-2 after Chen/Jia won with a score of 21-11, 21-8.

Indonesia now relies on their second singles player, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, to extend the breath of the "Merah Putih" team in the Uber Cup final. Ester will face China's second singles player, He Bing Jiao, in the third match.

"I didn't expect to play in the Uber finals again with Ribka. We've been fighting together since we were young, from the club until now, making history together," said Fadia after the match against Chen/Jia.

Despite their status as impromptu doubles, Fadia/Ribka tried to provide tough resistance to the host's favorite doubles. They were able to keep up with Chen/Jia's play at the start of the first game.

However, China's aggressive doubles game continues to make it difficult for Fadia/Ribka. They were leading 11-7 entering the first interval. A smash from Riba gave the next point to Chen/Jia. The home pair continued to gain more points until they were far ahead at 14-7 before Fadia/Ribka were able to score additional points.

Chen/Jia are very tough, in terms of experience and mentality they are very good.

However, Chen/Jia's game was too difficult to match for Fadia/Ribka, so they were unable to threaten the home team's lead. Moreover, the Indonesian pair often made mistakes with shots that were too wide or got caught in the net.

One of them was when the score was 19-11, Ribka had the opportunity to perform a smash in front of the net when the shuttlecock floated above the net. However, Ribka's hit ended up hitting the net. Chen/Jia won the first game with a score of 21-11.

Entering the second game, Fadia/Ribka fell far behind, 3-9 before being able to gain additional points. However, Chen/Jia did not continue to play aggressively and did not give any chance for the Indonesian pair to catch up.

The home team's doubles continued to add points with a very wide lead, 14-4, before the Indonesian doubles obtained two consecutive additional points. The opportunity to earn three additional points with a long rally ended with Ribka's smash getting stuck in the net, resulting in Chen/Jia widening the gap once again.

Chen/Jia also won the second game with a score of 21-8. The dominant performance by the Chinese women's doubles team means they only need one more win to secure their 16th Uber Cup championship.

"Chen/Jia are very tough, both in experience and mentality. Especially since they have often been in team finals while this is our first time. This is a valuable lesson for us," said Fadia after the match ended.

In this final match, Indonesia fielded Gregoria as the first single, then Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo and Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi. As for the doubles, they fielded the impromptu pair of Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Ribka Sugiarto and Lanny Tria Mayasari/Rachel Allessya Rose. Fadia had to partner with Rebekah because her partner, Apriyani Rahayu, had not yet recovered from injury. The Lanny/Rachel pair will face Liu Sheng Shu/Zhang Shu Xian.
