Dharma Pongrekun and Noer Fajrieansyah as Individual Candidates for Governor of Jakarta

Individual candidates for governor of DKI Jakarta must meet the supporting requirements of 618,968 KTPs and statements of support in 4 regions.

Ahead of the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada, a number of candidate names are starting to appear to the public.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Dharma Pongrekun and Noer Fajrieansyah emerged as candidates for governor of DKI Jakarta individual route. Dharma has already consulted with the DKI Jakarta General Election Commission to fulfill the support requirements and procedures for fulfilling the support, while Noer will do this this Monday (6/5/2024).

Jakarta will hold regional head elections (pilkada) on November 27. Overall, the 2024 regional elections will take place in 545 regions, consisting of 37 provinces, 415 districts and 93 cities.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) of DKI Jakarta has announced the acceptance of support requirements for independent governor/deputy governor candidates from May 5-7, 2024. So far, there are already two names who want to participate through the independent pathway, namely Dharma, a retired police officer with three stars on his shoulder, and Noer, one of the commissioners of PT Petrokimia Gresik.

"The team of Dharma candidate pairs has been consulted. If the team is paired with Noer, they will be consulted. "To be able to run as an individual candidate, you must meet the supporting requirements of 618,968 KTPs and a statement of support spread across at least four administrative regions," said Head of the Technical Division for Election Administration KPU DKI Jakarta Dody Wijaya.

On Monday afternoon, Temen Bang Fajrie, Noer's campaign team, visited the Jakarta Election Commission (KPU). They also consulted on the fulfillment of support requirements and procedures for fulfilling support.

Dody mentioned that it is mandatory to collect 618,968 support as verified by ID cards and statements of support spread in at least four administrative areas in accordance with the Jakarta Election Commission's Decision No. 47 of 2024 regarding the minimum requirements and spread of support for independent gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidate pairs in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial elections.

"In the near future, we will receive the requirements for supporting independent candidates and proceed to verify the administration and factual support for independent candidates," said Dody.

The political costs that must be incurred are also relatively large because currently voters tend to be pragmatic.

The Regional Election Commission (KPU) of Jakarta Province will accept the requirements for independent candidate support from May 8-12, 2024, verify the administration from May 13-30, 2024, and carry out factual verification from June 3-16, 2024.

Dharma in its declaration, at the beginning of February, carried five missions. Noer emphasizes youthful energy to lead Jakarta.

The five missions of Dharma as a candidate for governor are to provide freedom or the absence of barriers for people to worship, to repeal or improve policies that do not support the residents, to facilitate services for the community and eradicate the root of corruption.

Noer was nominated due to his young figure. He is believed to have abundant energy, which is one of the factors in successfully making Jakarta a center of economy and a global city.

This is also inseparable from his track record as the Chairman of the Indonesian National Youth Committee 2018-2021 and several positions in business entities such as PT Perusahaan Trading Indonesia (Persero), PT Pos Indonesia, and PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (Persero).

In relation to this individual candidate, political observer Ikrar Nusa Bhakti, in Jakarta, Sunday (5/5/2024), said that taking part in the regional elections from an individual route is more difficult than running through a political party. This situation also applies to those who will run in the DKI Jakarta Governor Election (Pilgub) (Kompas, 5 February 2024).

Independent candidates require significant support from the community. The political costs to be incurred are also relatively high, as voters tend to be pragmatic or expect monetary rewards in the election process. With these challenges, it is not easy to progress in the Jakarta regional elections through the independent path.
