Pandalungan Train Vs Minibus Accident in Pasuruan, 4 Passengers Killed

The victims who died on-site were Munjiah (62), Aidah (60), and Alwiyah (55). Meanwhile, a passenger named Maslahah died while being treated in the hospital. The driver and two other passengers suffered injuries and are currently being treated at R Soedarsono Pasuruan Regional Hospital.

"The victims are reported to be a group of extended family members from Pondok Pesantren Sidogiri, Pasuruan, who were planning to visit their relatives in Rejoso. Upon arrival at the location, they experienced this tragedy," said Deputy Commissioner Andria Diana Putra of Pasuruan City Police Resort.

Andria stated that the accident occurred at 08.41 WIB on the stretch of road between Pasuruan Station and Rejoso. At the time, a Toyota Kijang with license plate number N 1475 WU driven by M Rofiq Abdillah was travelling from south to north, while the train was travelling from west to east (from Jakarta to Jember). As a result of the accident, the minibus was dragged for up to 150 meters in a completely destroyed condition.

According to an eyewitness named Sadullah, a volunteer track guard, he had warned the minibus driver to stop because there was a train coming. However, the warning was ignored. The driver continued on until the minibus was hit by the train.

The police, according to Andria, have conducted a scene investigation, questioned witnesses and gathered evidence for further investigation related to this incident. "We are also coordinating with the transportation agency and PT Kereta Api Indonesia to immediately activate the train gate," he said.

Until now, the police are still investigating the case and have not yet identified the suspect. "There are no suspects yet, we are still collecting testimonies, conducting further investigations. We will announce further information later," he said.

When contacted separately, the Legal and Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Region 9 Jember, Cahyo Widiantoro, expressed regret over the incident. As a result of the accident, the locomotive of the Pandalungan train was damaged.

Do not sneak around, make sure it is safe before crossing the railway track by stopping for a moment, looking to the right and left, and making sure there are no trains approaching. Do not be reckless, your family is waiting at home.

In addition to disrupting the journey of the Pandalungan train, the incident also disrupted the journey of the Logawa train from Jember to Purwokerto which should have crossed paths with Pandalungan at Rejoso Station.

"At 9:59, the evacuation of the car wreckage was completed, moving away from the train line. A rescue locomotive from Jember was sent, but at 10:08, KA Pandalungan was able to depart after being repaired by the technical team," he said.

Regarding this incident, according to Cahyo, PT KAI Daop 9 will follow legal procedures in accordance with applicable regulations. KAI Daop 9 again reminds the public and road users who will pass through level crossings to always be careful.

In accordance with Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Article 114, road users are obliged to give priority to trains and give the right primary to vehicles that cross the tracks first.

"Don't cross the railway tracks recklessly, make sure it's safe by stopping for a moment, looking right and left, and ensuring there are no approaching trains. Don't be careless, your family is waiting at home," he said.

The train accident involving a minibus that occurred today is the second incident in the Daop 9 region in the last six months that has killed more than two people.

Previously, in mid-November 2023, an Isuzu Elfter collided with a Probowangi Train heading from Surabaya to Banyuwangi at an unmanned level crossing in Ranupakis Village, Klakah Subdistrict, Lumajang Regency. Eleven people from Surabaya died and four others were seriously injured in the incident.
