Victim of plane crash in BSD, Captain Suanda once lived in Sidoarjo

The co-pilot's house was empty and according to local residents had not been lived in for a long time.

SIDOARJO, KOMPAS - Suanda, one of the passengers of the PK-IFP training aircraft belonging to the Indonesia Flying Club, which crashed in Bumi Serpong Damai, South Tangerang, Banten, is located in Sidoarjo, East Java. However, the co-pilot's house is empty and according to local residents, it has not been inhabited for a long time.

Captain Suanda's house is located in Block SS Number 22 of Pejaya Anugrah Housing, Kramat Jegu Village, Taman District, Sidoarjo. Captain Suanda, along with his wife, Wahyuningsih, and their two children, did live in the house and were registered as local residents in their identification cards.

"They are indeed registered as residents here because there is still a family card record with the local neighborhood association. However, due to work, Captain Suanda has not lived in that house for more than 10 years," said Soleh Fais, the Head of RT 007 RW 011. In that neighborhood, Suanda is also known as Suwanda.

According to Soleh, Suanda's family, his wife and child, used to live in the house while Captain Suanda was on duty out of town. However, since four years ago, the house has been empty.

As previously reported, a training plane had an air accident in the Sunburst Field area, Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Serpong District, South Tangerang, Banten, Sunday. There were three fatalities in this incident.

The victims consist of Pulu Darmawan the aircraft pilot, co-pilot Suanda, and technician Farid Ahmad. Pulu Darmawan is a resident of Jetak hamlet, Duren village, Badungan district, Semarang, Central Java.

When the plane crashed, Pulu Darmawan was thrown from the fuselage. Meanwhile, Suanda and Farid Ahmad were pinned to the fuselage of the plane. All victims of the plane crash have now been taken to hospital.

The Suanda family, consisting of his wife and child, previously lived in the house when Captain Suanda was on duty out of town. However, since four years ago, the house has been left vacant.

The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) collected a number of aircraft debris. The transportation safety investigators suspect that there were indications of failure during an emergency landing.

Chairman of KNKT Soerjanto Tjahjono said on Sunday that in order to uncover the cause of the airplane accident of PK-IFP owned by Indonesia Flying Club, his team collected plane debris that fell in several locations.

“There was an engine that fell over there and a propeller that fell over here. "We noted the positions," said Soerjanto.

From the collection of debris, it will be known the position of the aircraft during the critical moment before the accident occurred. "We will also examine the pilot's last conversation with the air traffic control officer," he said.

According to the plan, all aircraft debris will be collected at Pondok Cabe Air Base, South Tangerang, for further investigation.

"However, we are still waiting for other information before dismantling the aircraft engine," he said.

Through various studies, the causes of accidents can be identified, including the reason why the pilot directed the plane to this location. Soerjanto estimated that there were efforts from the airplane crew to carry out an emergency landing.

However, the effort failed as the plane ended up flying low and crashing into a tree. "If the emergency landing had succeeded, perhaps they would have survived," he said (Kompas.id, 19/5/2024).
