Constitutional Court Justices Ready to Give Verdict

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The justices of the Constitutional Court are set to read out their verdict on the election dispute on June 27, one day earlier than scheduled. All parties must accept the court\'s decision.
A lawsuit was filed by the Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair to dispute the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) election result, which named the Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Ma’rul Amin pair as the winner, with 55.50 percent of the vote, ahead of Prabowo-Sandi, with 44.50 percent.
After it was agreed during a judicial consultative meeting (RPH) that the verdict would be read out on June 27, hearing invitations were sent to the two concerned parties and uploaded to the Constitutional Court’s official website. Invitations were also sent to the legal team and liaison team of each party.
Head of the court’s legal and domestic cooperation section Fajar Laksono Soeroso said the decision to read the verdict on June 27 was made because the panel of justices had made its decision. “The determination of the date also indicates that the panel of justices has made its decision. It means the assembly is ready to convene to read the verdict on June 27,” he said.
The Prabowo-Sandi and Jokowi-Amin pairs and the KPU have stated they will accept the Constitutional Court\'s decision. The Prabowo-Sandi and Jokowi-Amin teams have also appealed to their supporters not to make mass actions during the reading of the court\'s decision.
Fajar said that all parties must accept the court\'s decision because the decision was final and binding.
"With an open process, there should be no more doubt about the independence and integrity of the Constitutional Court in deciding this case. It must be remembered, one indicator of the rule of law is how obedient we are to a court’s decisions," he said.
Ready to attend
Separately, KPU member Hasyim Asy\'ari said his office had received a letter of invitation to attend the verdict reading session. "The KPU is ready to attend the reading of the Constitutional Court\'s decision," he said.
Meanwhile, Prabowo-Sandi legal team member Denny Indrayana said that as of Monday afternoon he had not received an invitation to attend the verdict reading. "We have not received an invitation. It is usually sent via email, but we don\'t have the email yet," he said.
The chairman of Jokowi-Amin\'s legal team, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said he had also received an invitation from the court to be present at the hearing, adding that his party was ready to attend. (REK)
