JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The search for Harun Masiku, a suspect in a bribery case related to the replacement of a House of Representatives member, must be prioritized. At the same time, the cause of the delay in information on Harun’s travel abroad must also be revealed thoroughly.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Jan. 9 named Harun, a former legislative candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), a suspect in a bribery case implicating a former member of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Wahyu Setiawan. Until Wednesday (29/1/2020), the whereabouts of Harun were still unknown.
National Police chief Gen. (Pol.) Idham Azis in Jakarta said the special police team led by the National Police\'s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) chief, Comr. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, was still investigating the whereabouts of Harun. He assured the National Police was fully committed to helping the KPK find Harun.
KPK is open to receiving input so that the person concerned is immediately found.
"Certainly we have received a letter [request for search] from the KPK and we will help the KPK fully," he said.
Separately, KPK acting spokesman Ali Fikri said the search for Harun continued. For people who have information, he said, the KPK is open to receiving input so that the person concerned is immediately found.
Meanwhile, a Democratic Party politician, Andi Arief, asked law enforcement officials to immediately clarify information from the media that Harun had been in the complex of the Police Science College (PTIK) in Jakarta. "If after one week there is no answer, we as citizens will represent the people\'s right to know the whereabouts of Harun from the authority of PTIK," Andi said.
Harun was mentioned by the Immigration Directorate General of the Law and Human Rights Ministry to have left for Singapore on Jan. 6 and has not returned to the country. The data was then corrected by the Immigration Directorate General, 22 Jan., by saying Harun returned to Indonesia on Jan. 7. The confusion is due to delays in the immigration information system.
University of Indonesia criminologist Thomas Sunaryo believed that tracking Harun should not be too difficult for law enforcement officials. Moreover, Harun is said to be in Indonesia. He compared the search for Harun with the arrest of M. Nazaruddin a few years ago. Nazaruddin, who at that time had a strategic position in the Democratic Party that was in power, was immediately arrested, even though he was in Colombia.
According to him, the reason for the delay in immigration information did not make sense.
In connection with this, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly on Tuesday removed Immigration Director General Ronny Sompie to prevent any conflict of interest when investigating the delay in the immigration information system related to Harun.
Ronny was not willing to comment about it. When contacted, he only said that he was transferred from a structural position to a functional position.
Meanwhile, a number of immigration employees had once changed the profile of their instant messaging application with the gray Immigration Directorate General symbol.
Regarding Harun \'s confusing information, chairperson of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation Asfinawati said Yasonna also needs to be held responsible. Yasonna also mentioned that Harun was not in Indonesia several times.
He also said that Yasonna\'s presence as the head of the Law and Legislative Council of the PDI-P’s Central Executive Board (DPP) during the announcement of the formation of a legal team related to cases involving Harun and Wahyu made Yasonna\'s statement ambiguous; between a public official and party official.
Yasonna said he refused to take responsibility for the misinformation about Harun’s travels. He accused his subordinates of disobeying orders. "The responsibility is who is the most [responsible] there. The system, I said a few months ago, improve the system," he said.
