Two people from Depok, West Java, who have tested positive for COVID-19, are being treated at the hospital. They are known to have been in direct contact with a Japanese citizen during a visit to Indonesia, who was later discovered to be infected with COVID-19.

On Monday (2/3/2020) at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced two Indonesians had been infected with Covid-19 after close contact with the Japanese national who was diagnosed with the disease in Malaysia after traveling to Indonesia.

The President’s announcement, accompanied by Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, dispelled suspicions among the international community that Indonesia was concealing its cases of Covid-19 infection.
