JAKARTA, KOMPAS – In commemorating the International Women’s Day on March, Indonesia’s ride-hailing mobile app, Gojek, partners with Hollaback!, a movement against harassment in public space, in order to provide an anti-sexual harassment training in four cities, which are Jakarta, Bandung, Palembang, and Bali. This program is part of Gojek’s approach in handling safety issues, catered for both driver partners and customers.
In this training program, Gojek trains driver communities representative to be able to identify different types of harassment and know how to intervene according to the situation.
“Safety and security are our utmost priority. As a super app, Gojek serves the daily needs of its users. For ensuring that, we need to continuously improve our technology and educate our partners,” said Nila Marita, Chief Corporate Affairs of Gojek, through a statement received by Kompas, Thursday (4/4/2019) night.
To optimize its customer’s safety, the latest version of Gojek app is now equipped with Share Trip and Emergency Button features. Share Trip allows users to share information about pick up and delivery location, also detailed information about drivers, their vehicle, the trip status, estimated time arrival, and the direction chosen by the driver. That information can be shared with their chosen recipients through the instant messaging app.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Button feature helps users to quickly report an emergency situation that occurred during the trip. “All emergency reports are handled by our emergency unit who then provides end-to-end support. Emergency units are available in all of our operational areas,” said Radityo Wibowo, Global Head of Transport of Gojek.
In accordance with Gojek’s standard operating procedure (SoP), every emergency report is assisted by the emergency unit. Assistance includes medical checkup, medical treatment, psychological treatment by psychiatrists, and legal support.
Although sexual harassment is an important issue in online ride-hailing, public awareness about it is still limited. By partnering with Hollaback!, Gojek hopes that the training program and the new feature app can help to promote correct understanding about sexual harassment.
“We appreciate Gojek’s attention to this matter and takes charge to create positive change,” said Anindya Restuviani, Co-Director of Hollaback!
She explained, the drivers’ training materials include knowledge about the form of harassment that is often normalized by most public. Other parts of the training focus on introducing and practicing efficient bystander intervention method. Through a versatile “5D methods” for example, drivers practice the process of how to direct, delay, distract, document, and delegate.
“This training is in line with our vision to create a comfortable environment for all users, including the relatively vulnerable groups, such as women and children. They indeed cover the largest number of our users,” said Nila.
