Ahead of the official announcement of the results of the simultaneous elections on May 22, 2019, political tension is increasing, triggered solely by the political elites.
Looking at news in the media, we found declarations about “people power”, treason, election fraud, riots and opponents. Both candidates are claiming victory. Congratulatory banners were installed at the order of both presidential campaign teams. On the one hand, it is a form of political participation and stimulates the small-scale economy, but on the other hand it increases political tension.
Our democracy is noisy. However, the noise is only created by the political elite. More than 150 million residents showed democratic maturity. Within the six hours for voting on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, the people were sovereign. The people exercised their voice. The people have elected the president and the people\'s representatives. Everything went smoothly and peacefully, except for the many poll organizers who died.
The maturity of the people\'s democracy must be respected. The voice of the people must be maintained. Political elites, especially election contestants, must be prepared to accept people\'s votes. There is no need for provocation to move the people toward certain political goals. People power already occurred on April 17.
It is the right of candidates Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno to claim a 62 percent victory based on their closed internal data. It is also the right of the national campaign team of Joko Widodo and Ma\'ruf Amin to have announced having won the safe limit of more than 80 million votes.
However, the claims of victory still have to await the General
Elections Commission (KPU). The KPU is the institution with the responsibility to announce the election results on May 22. The official results are based on a manual count. The election results are not based on victory claims nor on quick counts by survey institutions, or the KPU’s Situng, which is based on C1 form scanning. The official results of the elections are to be derived from a manual count carried out by the KPU. The allegations of fraud must be investigated through constitutional mechanisms, through the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) or the Honorary Council of the Election Organizer (DKPP). The selection of KPU and Bawaslu members all involved the House of Representatives (DPR).
The procedures of democracy must be respected. The democratic system demands the presence of democrats who have the commitment to respect the rules of the game. A democrat must be willing to accept the voice of the people and accept what the people say, not just to hear information that pleases him. The government is sufficiently proportional to guarantee political stability. The government does not need to create new things that actually create new noise. This nation must move forward, not backwards.
At present, all expressions are recorded with a digital footprint. Who is lying, who is inconsistent, would be easily traced. The liar damages human dignity. The Javanese proverb says, “Ajining diri ana ing lathi” (one\'s self-esteem or dignity is in his/her speech or words). It is to be recorded in eternal digital traces.
