Maintain the Peaceful Condition
Political lobbying has been carried out by a number of elites to maintain peaceful conditions. Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prabowo Subianto are expected to meet soon.
JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Political lobbying and communication continue to be carried out by a number of the elite to create a peaceful situation after the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the results of the 2019 election. In addition to maintaining national integrity and unity, efforts are being made by the political elite to organize a meeting between the two presidential candidates, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Prabowo Subianto.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Thursday (23/5/2019) invited a number of religious leaders and community figures to his official residence on Jl. Diponegoro, Jakarta.
Those present at the meeting included the sixth Indonesian vice president, Try Sutrisno; Nahdlatul Ulama executive board chairman Said Aqil Siroj; Muhammadiyah\'s executive board general secretary Abdul Mu\'ti; Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan; Indonesian Ulema Council\'s (MUI) advisory board chairman Din Syamsuddin; National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) Governor Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Agus Widjojo; and Suluh Kebangsaan Movement chairman Mahfud MD.
After the meeting, which took place from 9 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., Try Sutrisno suggested that the nation\'s integration and unity be strengthened. "All of us are standing, there has been no defeat nor victory. It would be futile to prolong the situation," he said.
Vice President Kalla said all public figures were optimistic that the people of Indonesia could uphold democracy in peace.
Separately, United Development Party (PPP) secretary-general Arsul Sani said a number of political figures from different coalitions in the 2019 election continued to establish communication to realize a meeting between Jokowi and Prabowo. A meeting between the two figures is believed to be very important to ease political tension.
"Pak Jokowi wants to immediately meet with Pak Prabowo in his capacity as a fellow presidential candidate," Arsul said.
Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) chairman Sohibul Iman, as a member of the coalition supporting Prabowo-Sandi, also said Jokowi and Prabowo should meet. "An inter-elite meeting would have a positive effect and must be supported by all parties," he said.
Prabowo\'s campaign spokespersons coordinator, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said Prabowo had no objection to meeting Jokowi. However, the requested meeting be held at his residence and not compromise the election results or be held in order to offer government positions.
"Whenever Pak Jokowi wants to have a get-together at [Prabowo\'s house in] Kertanegara or Hambalang, Pak Prabowo will be welcoming," said Dahnil.
According to Dahnil, it would be better to hold the meeting at Prabowo\'s residence because Prabowo was concentrating on preparing to contest the 2019 presidential election result at the Constitutional Court (MK), which would made it difficult for Prabowo to visit Jokowi at the Presidential Palace.
Disputes in the Constitutional Court
The Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno campaign spokesman Andre Rosiade said the party would file the appeal against the presidential election results with the Constitutional Court today. The dispute submission deadline is midnight today.
Constitutional Court Chief Justice Anwar Usman has guaranteed that all election dispute appeals would be accepted and examined by the Constitutional Court. He also gave assurances that all MK judges would remain independent in election disputes and would consider each case based on fact and the evidence submitted. "We remain unaffected by the situation outside," he said. The KPU has prepared a legal team to face election disputes at the Constitutional Court. "The KPU has appointed a legal team that will be in charge of facing disputes at the Constitutional Court," said KPU member Viryan Aziz.
Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin\'s campaign team will also submit a request to the Constitutional Court to be a related party in the presidential election dispute. Jokowi-Amin\'s lawyer, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, will lead a 33-member legal team at Constitutional Court hearings.
Besides Yusril as lead lawyer, the team is also led by Trimedya Pandjaitan of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as the deputy chairman, Arsul Sani of the United Development Party (PPP), Teguh Samudera (Hanura), Luhut Pangaribuan (professional) and national campaign team (TKN) law and advocate director Ade Irfan Pulungan as secretary.
“We as a related party can help answer arguments from Pak Prabowo\'s side,” said Ade Irfan Pulungan.
Infiltrated
Mahfud MD said he believed that the demonstration on May 21-22 to reject the 2019 election result by supporters of the Prabowo-Sandi pair had been infiltrated. "We believe there were intruders who had different agendas and were not part of the movement that rejected the results of the 2019 presidential election," he said.
A member of the Suluh Kebangsaan Movement, Sarwono Kusumaatmadja, said the several instances of unrest in Jakarta were crimes and the rioters and actors behind them must be dealt with firmly. ( AGE/ INK/ REK/ EDN/ SPW/ NTA
