Keluarga berencana besar maknanya/untuk hari depan nan jaya/putra-putri yang sehat cerdas dan kuat/’kan menjadi harapan bangsa....” (Family planning has a big meaning/for the glorious future/healthy, smart and strong sons and daughters/to be the hope of the nation...")
These lyrics from the "Family Planning" song composed by Mochtar Embut in 1972 express the importance of the family. Not only for the future of the family itself, but also for the future of the nation. Noted Chinese philosopher Confusius (Khong Qiu), mentions that the strength of the nation comes from the integrity of the houses (families).
The importance of the family for the nation is also implied in the 1945 Constitution, which was later regulated in Law No. 10/1992 on the development of the population and development of a prosperous family. Law No. 10/1992 was amended by Law No. 52/2019 on population and family development, which among other things, emphasizes the importance of family planning to improve the quality of the population. A quality population will guarantee the quality of the nation. The family planning program has been in place since 1957 in this country.
To remind people of the importance of the family, every 29 June is celebrated as National Family Day. The United Nations also stated the important meaning of the family, by determining 15 May as International Family Day. The Abu Dhabi Declaration, which was signed on 4 February 2019 by world Catholic leader Pope Francis and Al-Azhar High Priest, Cairo, Egypt, Ahmad al-Tayyeb, also emphasized that brotherhood and world peace could be created by caring in the family.
As reported, the peak of this year\'s XXVI National Family Day celebration was held on Saturday (6/7/2019) in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. In the celebration, the importance of the role of the family was emphasized, including in implementing Pancasila (Kompas, 7/7/2019). The role of the family is important for the next generation in building characters, ethics, norms of society and strengthening Pancasila in the life of nation and state. Moreover, in Indonesia there are 714 ethnic groups, 1,100 regional languages and various religions and public beliefs.Diversity is Indonesia\'s strength as a nation, but it can also be a source of conflict. Setara Institute recorded that throughout 2018, there were 202 violations of freedom of religion and belief in this country. That number increased from 155 cases of violations of freedom of religion and belief in 2017. In 2019 it is believed that the number of conflicts in society has increased, including because of the elections.
To avoid conflicts in the community, and build unity in this country, we should not only depend on the government and community institutions. The people must play an active role, and it must depart from the family. The family is the smallest element in society that is the most effective in fostering an attitude of tolerance and mutual respect with other citizens. Tolerance, as written by archaeologist Bambang Budi Utomo in the book Jejak Silam Toleransi, is an ancestral heritage of this nation. In families in the community.
