President Joko Widodo has declared the Covid-19 pandemic a national non-natural disaster. Coordination to prevent the virus’ transmission must be better.
Presidential Decree No. 12/2020 gives flexibility to the chairman of the Covid-19 Task Force to handle and stop the Covid-19 pandemic. With the status of a national non-natural disaster, coordination can be carried out in one control up to the regional head.
Speed in handling the Covid-19 outbreak is the key to ending the epidemic. This requires better coordination.
The outbreak basically leads to two impacts, namely that on people\'s lives and livelihoods and that on the national economy.
Much more still needs to be done to control the transmission of the virus and mitigate its impact.
Although the government has worked hard to overcome these two major impacts, much more still needs to be done to control the transmission of the virus and mitigate its impact.
Transmission of the coronavirus is still ongoing, as can be seen from the increasing number of new cases. Covid-19 has an impact on people\'s lives and livelihoods, because this virus does not always cause clinical symptoms in infected people. As a result, people who look healthy can become carriers of the virus and infect others.
With our current health system, the mortality rate of people with Covid-19 is quite high, approaching 9 percent. There is no other way to deal with the current Covid-19 outbreak, except to prevent transmission through physical and social confinement. There is still no vaccine or official drug that can be used to overcome this virus.
However, physical confinement and large-scale social restrictions have an impact on the lives and livelihoods of many people. Data from the Manpower Ministry, quoted by the Indonesian Employers Association, show that currently 1.5 million workers have been affected by Covid-19, 150,000 people were dismissed and the rest were laid off. The worst possible economic growth is minus 0.4 percent.
The urgent matter that must be immediately coordinated is to increase the screening of people who may be infected and to track people who may have had contact with infected people, and to isolate them. We still lack equipment such as ventilators and personal protective equipment for health workers. Because new cases continue to increase, hospitals and health workers must be prepared as well as possible.
With the determination the Covid-19 outbreak as a national disaster, the Covid-19 Task Force must be able to better coordinate the handling of transmission from the center to the regions, use all resources more efficiently, and work faster. All parties must be willing to work under the coordination of the task force, including maintaining communication so as not to cause confusion and public unrest.
